Tata Altroz, the first hatch to receive the highest 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP  is the brand’s flagship and most premium hatchback model in the Indian market. It is also the only vehicle in its segment to be offered in petrol, diesel and CNG versions. Recently, Tata Motors introduced a sportier and more powerful derivative of the Altroz in the form of the Altroz Racer in the domestic market with new features. Here’s what the buzz around Tata Altroz Racer is all about:

Tata Motors has introduced the Altroz Racer with a new petrol engine and manual gearbox in three grades: R1, R2 and R3 at introductory prices of INR 9.49 lakh, INR 10.49 lakh, and INR 10.99 lakh, (Ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. 

Presented in a race car inspired exterior, Tata Altroz Racer gets three exterior colorways: Pure Grey, Atomic Orange, and Avenue White. There are a handful of cosmetic updates as well to distinguish it from the regular version of the hatchback. The Altroz Racer, flaunts white racing stripes on the bonnet and on the roof that come in a contrasting Black shade as standard. Riding on 16-inch alloy wheels, it features automatic projector headlamps with LED DRLs, fog lamps and rain sensing wipers. The front grille has been slightly redesigned as the front fenders boast the ‘Racer’ badging. The rear profile has been retained from the standard model and come with a wiper, washer as well as a defogger.

The Altroz Racer gets an array of premium, modern and striking features in the form of Front ventilated seats (segment first), 360 degree camera, Air purifier, Electric sunroof with voice assist, Wireless charger, 7-inch TFT digital cluster, Steering mounted cluster control, Fully automatic temperature control (FATC) with Xpress cool & Rear AC vents, Leatherette seats, Rear armrest, Front sliding armrest, Electrically adjustable & autofold ORVM, Cruise control and Height adjustable driver seat. The centre console is dominated by a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and iRA connected Car tech. For music lovers, the hatch comes equipped with four speakers and four tweeters. 

The Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine which develops max power of 118 bhp at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 170 Nm between 1,750-4,000 rpm. The engine is coupled with a new 6-speed manual transmission with exhaust being tuned to make the sound more sportier. This is the same engine which used to come with the Altroz iTurbo. However, it delivers 10 bhp and 30 Nm more with the Altroz Racer, identical power and torque figures as that of the Nexon.

The Altroz Racer is introduced with 6-airbags as standard safety feature across the entire variant range.

Tata Altroz Racer takes on the Hyundai i20 N-Line and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0L Boosterjet which is priced between INR 9.72-13.04 lakh.
