MUMBAI :

Finally, the long wait will be over on Jan 17, the inaugural day, of Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi, when Hyundai Creta Electric will be launched in the Indian market. It will be the South-Korean brand’s first mass-market EV for India. Though the company has been retailing two electric cars in the domestic market in the form of the Kona and the Ioniq 5, both are CBUs, making them rather expensive for the common man. Therefore, in order to maximize their EV reach and bridge this gap, Hyundai, is now launching the Creta Electric in India. Here’s a look at what Hyundai’s latest electric SUV has to offer.

Hyundai Creta Electric Rivals

The Creta Electric will directly lock horns with Tata Curvv, Mahindra BE 6, and the soon-to-be-launched Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara in the Indian market.

Hyundai Creta Electric Design

Hyundai has retained the overall design of the electric SUV from its ICE counterpart, except for a few EV-specific cosmetic updates. The conventional front grille has been replaced by a pixelated graphic unit which also houses the charging port. The lower bumper too flaunts pixelated graphics. However, a special mention goes to the unique Active Air Flaps (AAF) which not only accentuate the styling quotient but also manage the air flow and help in cooling the vehicle components. The Creta Electric rides on 17-inch Aero alloy wheels with Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) tyres. The rear profile is dominated by the LED tail-lamp cluster along with a pixelated graphic bumper.

Hyundai Creta Electric Interior and Features

The Creta Electric gets a wheelbase of 2610 mm to ensure optimum space for the occupants. Furthermore, the boot capacity stands at 433 litres which is adequate to swallow up a lot of luggage. Hyundai has also made provisions for a 22 litre frunk (front storage area) to swallow the tiny stuff. The cabin boasts a dual-tone Granite Gray and Dark Navy interior. The centre console is presented in a floating design with ocean blue surround ambient lighting.

Hyundai claims that eco-friendly and sustainable materials such as recycled plastic bottles and corn extract have been used to craft the seats. Some of the notable features in the electric SUV includes 8-way powered seats for front row passengers, Driver side memory seat, 3-spoke steering wheel, 10.25-inch curvilinear digital instrument cluster, Dual-zone automatic climate control, Digital key, In-car payment, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Bose premium sound 8 speaker system, Voice-enabled panoramic sunroof and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Hyundai Creta Electric Safety Features

The Creta EV has been developed from Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and High Strength Steel (HSS), as stated by Hyundai. It boasts of Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS tech with 19 safety functions which includes Lane Keeping Assist, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Collision Warning, and Smart Cruise control among others. Some of the prominent standard safety features across the entire variant line-up are six-airbags, All-wheel disc brakes, Electronic parking brakes (EPB) with auto hold, Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and Hill Descent Control (HDC), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). However, the range-topping variants come equipped with additional safety features such as Surround view monitor (SVM), Blind-spot view monitor (BVM), Rain sensing wipers and Front parking sensors.

Hyundai Creta Electric Battery, Range and Charging Time

The Hyundai Creta Electric, which uses NMC batteries, gets two battery pack options: 51.4 kWh and 42 kWh. While the former will return a driving range of 473 km on a full charge, the latter will deliver 390 km on a full-charge. The 51.4 kWh battery will generate maximum power of 169 bhp while doing the 0-100 kmph sprint in merely 7.9 seconds. On the other hand, the 42 kWh battery pack will belt out 133 bhp. Hyundai has also installed a battery heater in order to extract optimum performance and range in cold weather conditions. As for charging time, it can be juiced up from 10 percent to 100 percent in just 4 hours using the 11 kW smart connected wall box charger (AC Home Charging). However, it will be quite brisk via the DC Charger and will merely take 58 mins to go from 10 percent to an 80 percent charge.

Hyundai Creta Electric Variants

Hyundai Creta Electric will be offered in four trim levels namely Executive, Excellence, Premium and Smart. There will also be dual-tone colour options in most of the grades.

The official bookings of the e-SUV have already commenced on Hyundai’s  digital platform earlier this month, for a token amount of INR 25,000, and the company’s authorized dealers have also started accepting pre-orders for the Creta Electric with first deliveries promised from Feb 2025 onwards.
