Nissan Motor India Private Ltd. (NMIPL), has been present in India for almost fifteen years now. In fact, it boasts a portfolio of two brands, Nissan and Datsun, and has also set up an R&D Center with its global alliance partner, Renault, near Chennai. Over the years, Nissan, has offered us a mixed bag of exciting products for the Indian market that have included hatchbacks, MUVs, SUVs and sedans. Who can forget the Nissan X-Trail and the Nissan Teana? Recently, they introduced the new KICKS 2020, for the Indian market with seven variants, of which two are automatic options. The KICKS 2020 competes with the Hyundai Creta, KIA Seltos, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport in its segment. What the new KICKS 2020 features, besides the most powerful engine in its class, the Nissan Turbo, is its hugely popular and much-loved X-tronic CVT tranny. 

If you opt for the new KICKS 2020 right away, you can also avail of their really competitive introductory price wherein the 1.5L petrol engine is available at INR 9,49, 990, 1.3L Turbo MT is available at INR 11,84,990. The KICKS 2020’s turbo engine boasts of Dual Variable Timing system, that reduces emissions and provides higher torque at lower rpms. Similarly, if you opt for the 1.3L CVT, it is now available at INR 13,44,990, and Nissan claims that their new X-tronic CVT is 40 per cent more efficient than the existing CVTs. The CVT gearbox unlike others, comes equipped with a 8-step M-Mode, so that the adrenaline junkie inside you doesn’t feel like it’s driving an SUV with a feeble engine. The new BS-VI engine HR13 DDT which is a 4-cyliner, 1.3Lpetrol engine that will belt out 156 PS and 254 Nm of torque. Worth mentioning is that the cylinder coating in the engine comes from none other than the legendary Nissan GT-R.

What the new KICKS 2020 also gets is vehicle stability management system, electronic stability control, traction control system, and a hill start assist, along with cruise control. Besides obvious features such as Automatic Headlamps, Rain Sensing Wipers, Push-Button start, etcetera, the new KICKS 2020, also comes equipped with a first-in-class 360-degree parking camera. You are bound to like the sporty-looking Instrument Cluster with an analogue tachometer towards the left, a digital speedometer in the centre, the tell-tale lights at the bottom and an analogue fuel gauge on the right. The infotainment system can be controlled via steering controls and boasts an 8-inch display with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A nice touch is that Automatic Climate Control is standard across all variants. The dashboard comprises of soft-touch materials, dual-tone leather wrapping, and with Nissan’s signature twin-parcel shelf along with a cooled glove box.

From the safety point-of-view, this time around, the KICKS 2020, gets four airbags. The fact that the front brakes are disc and the rear brakes are drum, across all variants, is a bit of a disappointment as others in the same segment are now offering disc brakes on all four wheels.

However, on offer for the new KICKS 2020 is also a standard two years/ 50,000 kms warranty which can be extended up to five years/ 100,000 kms at a nifty price. This also includes a free Road-Side Assistance subscription for two years, available across several cities. In order to ensure that their customers are not hassled, Nissan, will also offer a pre-paid maintenance service package at what they claim is “an attractive price starting, Rs2099/year.”

The all new KICKS 2020 is a good-looking SUV and is available in six monotone colours, Blade Silver, Night Shade, Bronze Grey, Fire Red, Pearl White, Deep Blue Pearl and three dual-tone colours, Bronze Grey with Amber Orange, Fire Red with Onyx Black and Pearl White with Onyx Black. With so many colours on offer, there is bound to be one favourite for every auto aficionado out there. It misses out on a sun roof and a diesel engine but nobody’s complaining. So, if you are looking for something that will not just make its presence felt with its premium-ness and technology, but will also offer you a comfortable ride as well as peace of mind when it comes to ownership costs, the new Nissan KICKS 2020 should deserve your attention. Oh, and don’t pay much attention to what the others may say about its performance as compared to its rivals, rest assured, not only is it a good choice to have in your garage but it will also get the job done.
