MUMBAI :

Mercedes-Benz India launched their ‘EQ’ brand in the country and with the launch of this brand, they will, (in all likelihood,) become the first luxury car manufacturer to bring “luxury electric motoring” to the country. Their EQ brand launch in India comes at a time when the Indian car market is gearing up to welcome a slew of EVs such as the Tata Nexon EV and the MG ZS EV, to name a few, however, these yet-to-be launched EVs do not offer luxury electric motoring as Mercedes-Benz’s EQ brand vehicles do. Competitors such as Audi’s e-tron and Jaguar’s I-Pace are yet to arrive in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “although 2019 was not a very good year for the industry “we tried our best to drive positive sentiments in the market.” However, he said that “2020 will be a very exciting year” full of “restlessness,” as India, “will witness more than ten product launches across segments.”

In keeping with Mercedes-Benz India’s focus on the latest technologies and connected services, Schwenk, said that “EQ represents intelligent electric mobility. EQ products represent appealing design, extraordinary driving pleasure and maximum safety. This new product and technology brand from Mercedes-Benz also displays emotion and intelligence and offers a comprehensive ecosystem of electric mobility with products, services, technologies and innovations. The spectrum ranges from electric vehicles to charging services to home energy storing units.”

Talking about the different vehicles Schwenk said that “the vehicles are divided into EQ-Boost which are Electrified combustion engines, EQ Power which are Plug-in Hybrids and EQ which are all Electric Vehicles.” He went on to say that the EQ family’s first model, the EQC, (which has already debuted at international auto shows,) will launch in April 2020. The EQC will be the first model of their electric offensive and Mercedes-Benz India whose mantra for 2020 is “Restless for Tomorrow” will continue to add more attractive cars for its customers.

With 97 outlets in 47 cities, Mercedes-Benz India, currently, has the highest network penetration in the luxury car segment and “This year we will be the first luxury car maker in India to reach the milestone of a 100 outlets,” added Schwenk.
