In a major milestone for the automaker, Kia India has rolled out its 1.5 millionth vehicle from its cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The landmark unit was a Kia Carens, a popular choice among Indian families.
In line with the celebration, the company has confirmed the launch of a refreshed version of the Carens on May 8. The upcoming model is set to be “smarter, safer, and much evolved,” further reinforcing Kia’s vision of delivering future-ready mobility solutions to Indian consumers.
Marking the achievement, Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, said, “Rolling out our 1.5 millionth ‘Make in India’ vehicle is a proud and emotional moment for Kia India and every partner who has been a part of this journey. From the very first Seltos to the 1.5 millionth Carens today, each car stands as a testament to the trust, love, and support of our customers and partners. We are deeply grateful for this association and look forward to continuing our pursuit of automotive excellence. The future of Kia India looks bright as we remain steadfast in driving innovation, offering industry-leading products, and shaping the mobility landscape in India.”
Since its debut in India in August 2019 with the launch of the Seltos, Kia has rapidly gained a foothold in the Indian automotive market. The brand has steadily expanded its portfolio to cater to evolving consumer demands, including the recent addition of the Syros, a compact SUV targeted at urban drivers.
The Anantapur plant, spread across 536 acres, is one of the most advanced automotive manufacturing facilities in India. It also serves as a crucial export hub, with vehicles shipped to over 90 countries. The plant’s production numbers to date include 700,668 units (46.7%) of the Seltos, 519,064 units (34.6%) of the Sonet, 241,582 units (16.1%) of the Carens, 23,036 units (1.5%) of the Syros, and 16,172 units (1.1%) of the Carnival.
