Marelli, a leading global automotive technology provider, will showcase its latest innovations in automotive lighting at Auto Shanghai 2025, running from April 23 to May 2 at the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center. Visitors can explore these cutting-edge solutions at the Marelli booth, located in Hall 1.2H, Stand 1BF009, under the theme “Fast Forward. Forward Fast.” This year, Marelli is unveiling three groundbreaking lighting technologies that are set to redefine the future of smart mobility and automotive design.

Marelli’s Pixel Rear Lamp is a world-first innovation, integrating OLED-TFT technology into automotive taillights. This high-resolution display system allows dynamic, customizable lighting that communicates vehicle status and driving intentions to surrounding road users, greatly improving driving safety. By using OLED-TFT technology, the Pixel Rear Lamp enables a seamless dynamic light communication experience, reducing reliance on traditional miniLED and MicroLED systems, while offering cost-effective, smooth, and detailed image displays.

Moreover, the Pixel Rear Lamp supports Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) integration, paving the way for the next generation of connected vehicles. Its dynamic capabilities open up new possibilities for personalized lighting signatures and design flexibility.

Marelli’s Near-Field Ground Projection technology is a revolutionary advancement in vehicle safety and smart interaction. This system projects dynamic, color-coded symbols onto the ground around the vehicle, providing a 360-degree lighting effect that significantly enhances safety. The projections include real-time alerts such as vehicle turning, reversing, or emergency braking, improving awareness for pedestrians and surrounding vehicles.

Additionally, the system can display important information such as autonomous driving status, battery level, driving range, and even the owner’s personal QR code for easier contact. With a compact and lightweight design, the Near-Field Ground Projection module weighs only 60 grams, offering flexible installation on doors, mirrors, and fenders. Capable of projecting full-color dynamic content with 50 lumens brightness and 200,000-pixel resolution, it covers an area equivalent to a 44-inch TV screen.

At Auto Shanghai 2025, Marelli will also showcase an advanced version of the Near-Field Ground Projection integrated into headlamps, capable of projecting content with 100 lumens brightness and 400,000-pixel resolution, offering a 100-inch projection area—ideal for outdoor activities and entertainment.

Marelli’s Thin Lit Line Headlamp takes automotive lighting design to the next level with an ultra-slim profile of just 5 millimeters. This revolutionary headlamp design removes traditional constraints, allowing automotive designers to create futuristic and personalized vehicle aesthetics. Despite its slim profile, the Thin Lit Line Headlamp delivers outstanding performance, featuring Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB), low beams, turn signals, and daytime running lights.

The Thin Lit Line Headlamp offers extensive customization options, showcasing Marelli’s expertise in optical design and highlighting the growing demand for advanced automotive aesthetics. This innovation combines style and functionality, allowing for highly personalized, modern vehicle designs.

Both the Near-Field Ground Projection module and Thin Lit Line Headlamp are ready for mass production, thanks to Marelli’s modular platform and localized development capabilities. These innovations enable fast-track production, allowing car manufacturers to quickly meet market demands and accelerate the rollout of new technologies.

Frank Huber, President of Marelli’s Lighting Business, said, “We are proud to unveil the world’s first OLED-TFT application in exterior automotive lighting with the Pixel Rear Lamp at Auto Shanghai 2025. Alongside the Near-Field Ground Projection and Thin Lit Line Headlamp, these technologies reflect our vision to set new trends in automotive lighting and collaborate with customers to enhance safety, design, and the driving experience.”

Kelei Shen, EVP of Marelli and President of Marelli China, added, “As a leader in automotive lighting technology, Marelli is committed to driving innovation in China, the world’s largest automotive market. Our new technologies demonstrate our ability to quickly turn innovative ideas into mass-produced solutions, meeting the growing demand for smarter, safer, and more personalized mobility experiences.”

Marelli’s automotive lighting innovations at Auto Shanghai 2025 are setting the stage for a future where safety, aesthetics, and smart technology converge. The Pixel Rear Lamp, Near-Field Ground Projection, and Thin Lit Line Headlamp are not just new products—they are a glimpse into the future of connected and intelligent vehicles. Marelli’s commitment to driving automotive innovation positions the company as a key player in the next generation of smart mobility solutions.
