KRISHNAGIRI
At Ola Electric’s expansive new Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu, the company delivered a striking message on the eve of Independence Day: the road to India’s energy self-reliance will be driven by electric innovation. At the centre of this transformation stands Bhavish Aggarwal—CEO, founder, and visionary force behind the brand—who presented a powerful roadmap that combines technological ingenuity, national ambition, and industrial design.

The event, marked by an electrifying musical performance from Shankar Mahadevan and his troupe, set the stage for an evening of announcements that went far beyond product updates. As Aggarwal declared, Ola Electric’s ambition is to become the world’s number one in electric vehicles and energy. It is a lofty goal, but not without substance. The company has scaled rapidly, from launching its first electric scooter in December 2021 to building a high-capacity Gigafactory in just four years.

Fully attuned to his brand’s digital-first consumer base, Aggarwal noted that Ola Electric was built on social media, not traditional advertising—a statement that reflects the disruptive, youth-focused DNA of the company.

Themed ‘India Inside’, the event underscored a nationalistic tone. Aggarwal spoke passionately about India’s need to stand on its own feet in an increasingly volatile global landscape. This theme of self-reliance is also reflected in Ola’s aggressive investment in indigenous technology—particularly its new 4680 battery platform.
The 4680 Battery Cell: A Foundation for Energy Independence
Ola Electric’s goal of making India truly energy independent hinges on its proprietary battery cell technology. The newly introduced 4680 battery, designed and manufactured entirely in India, is positioned not merely as a component but as a foundational platform.

In a strategic pivot away from rare earth dependency, Ola’s motors will utilise ferrite magnets. The 4680 cell, according to Aggarwal, will enable batteries that are nearly seven times more powerful than current industry standards. The platform has been designed with scalability in mind, allowing it to power not only two-wheelers but eventually larger electric vehicles, homes, and even city-level infrastructure.

The integration of this advanced cell technology is already underway. The S1 Pro+ and Roadster X+ will be among the first Ola vehicles to feature this next-gen energy source.
Product Upgrades: Greater Performance, Lower Prices
As part of its broader rollout, Ola announced significant upgrades to its existing EV lineup—now offered at reduced prices.
- S1 Pro+: INR 1,69,999 (previously INR 1,99,999)
- Roadster X+: INR 1,89,999 (down from INR 2,24,999)

In addition, customers booking within the first three days will receive an extra INR 10,000 discount. Deliveries are expected to begin in September 2025.
These price revisions, made possible by the efficiencies of in-house battery manufacturing, reflect Ola’s intent to make premium EV technology accessible to a wider segment of Indian consumers.
S1 Pro Sport: The Fastest Scooter in Its Class
The headline launch of the evening was the S1 Pro Sport, which claims the title of India’s fastest electric scooter in its segment. With a top speed of 152 kmph, an IDC-certified range of 320 km, and acceleration from 0–40 kmph in just 2 seconds, the Pro Sport is a high-performance offering with genuine everyday usability.

Led by Head of Product and Design Ramkripa Ananthan, the scooter features striking upgrades, including aero fairings, carbon fibre detailing, and an aggressive, race-inspired stance.

But it’s the tech that truly sets it apart. The Pro Sport is the first Indian scooter to incorporate Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offering:
- All-weather collision warning
- Adaptive cruise control
- Speeding alerts
- Blind-spot detection
- Front dash camera
- AI-powered voice assistance (in 11 Indian languages)
- The S1 Pro Sport is available for pre-booking at INR 999, with an ex-showroom price of INR 1.49 lakhs.
MoveOS 6: A Smarter Ride Experience
Complementing the hardware upgrades is Ola’s new software platform—MoveOS 6—built on the Gen 4 system architecture. Designed to bring energy systems, drivetrain intelligence, and rider interaction into one seamless unit, the OS introduces several key features:
- Adaptive cruise control and performance boost
- Voice assistant with multilingual support
- Rider-selectable mood modes

Based on Ola’s internal data, roughly 25 percent of users actively utilise cruise control, which will now evolve into a more responsive, adaptive system. The full rollout of MoveOS 6 is expected by early 2026.
Diamondhead: A Visionary Leap Forward
The evening’s showstopper was the unveiling of the long-awaited Diamondhead—Ola’s halo product and perhaps its most ambitious project yet. Aggarwal called it a moonshot at achieving bike-riding singularity. While details remain under development, the machine promises innovations across performance, comfort, and design.
From hub-centred steering and movable pedal columns to augmented-reality helmets, adaptive suspension, and wearable tech, the Diamondhead is a study in audacious engineering. Ramkripa Ananthan leads its design vision and development, and Ola is targeting a launch in 2027.

Though the final price remains speculative, Aggarwal theatrically hinted that it may have been set in defiance of his CFO’s advice. Ola expects the Diamondhead to retail below INR 5 lakhs (ex-showroom)—a figure that, if achieved, could redefine expectations in India’s high-performance two-wheeler segment.
Conclusion

Bhavish Aggarwal’s Independence Day address was far more than a showcase of electric vehicles; it was a carefully choreographed declaration of Ola Electric’s intent to lead the next era of Indian mobility. With bold investments in battery technology, design innovation, and intelligent systems, Ola is crafting a distinctly Indian answer to global challenges. Now, all eyes are on Ola Electric to turn its bold ambition into real-world dominance.
