MUMBAI
Audi has unveiled the R26 Concept, a design and technology manifesto that previews the marque’s forthcoming Formula 1 race car — set for global revelation in January. More than a concept, the R26 is the physical embodiment of Audi’s new design philosophy: clear, technical, intelligent, and emotional. It represents not merely the evolution of a car, but the crystallisation of a new brand identity, one that unites every strand of Audi’s creative and engineering DNA.
“We are implementing a unifying design language that draws together every aspect of our organisation,” explains Massimo Frascella, Chief Creative Officer at Audi. “The Formula 1 project is the pioneer of this new identity, which will define not only our motorsport presence but the future of Audi as a whole.”
The Art of Precision: A New Design Language for a New Era
The R26 Concept stands as one of the earliest expressions of Audi’s refreshed visual language. Its minimalist surfaces, sculpted with surgical precision, merge seamlessly with the aerodynamic geometry of a Formula 1 chassis. Every contour speaks of purpose; every detail reveals a symbiosis of function and form.
The colour palette… an elegant interplay of titanium, carbon black, and the newly introduced Audi Red—conveys power and sophistication in equal measure. As a visual statement, the red rings of the Audi emblem will appear selectively across its Formula 1 presence, symbolising passion and performance within a new global design framework.

Formula 1: The Global Stage for “Vorsprung durch Technik”
Audi’s Formula 1 entry represents far more than a sporting endeavour; it is a strategic and cultural flagship for the brand. Formula 1’s unparalleled global reach—boasting over 820 million fans and 1.6 billion television viewers—offers Audi a powerful platform to demonstrate Vorsprung durch Technik on the world stage.
Under the sport’s cost cap, teams operate within a defined financial framework, ensuring both sustainability and competitive equity. This balance of innovation and discipline mirrors Audi’s own values.
With corporate partners including adidas, bp, and forthcoming title sponsor Revolut, Audi’s Formula 1 project stands at the intersection of technological excellence, brand ambition, and economic sensibility.
At its helm are seasoned leaders Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley, guiding the team under the direction of Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. On track, experience meets promise through Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, a driver pairing that encapsulates Audi’s spirit of balance between mastery and momentum.
“Formula 1 is entertainment, emotion, and technology in perfect tension,” notes Jürgen Rittersberger, CFO of AUDI AG. “It inspires new audiences and reflects a more financially sustainable model — one that makes perfect sense for Audi, strategically and economically.”

Audi’s Clear and Ambitious Commitment to Formula 1
Just 115 days before its first race in Formula 1, Audi gave the world a preview of its Formula 1 presence at the Brand Experience Center in Munich. This event was not only a showcase of the R26 Concept but also a signal of Audi’s uncompromising commitment to precision — bringing the same clarity and innovation to the racetrack as it does to its production models.
“By entering the pinnacle of motorsport, Audi is making a clear, ambitious statement,” says Gernot Döllner, Audi’s CEO. “It is the next chapter in the company’s renewal. Formula 1 will be a catalyst for the change towards a leaner, faster and more innovative Audi.”
Döllner further affirms Audi’s ambitious roadmap: “We are not entering Formula 1 just to be there. We want to win. At the same time, we know that you don’t become a top team in Formula 1 overnight. It takes time, perseverance, and tireless questioning of the status quo. By 2030, we want to fight for the World Championship title.”

From Motorsport Heritage to the Pinnacle of Competition
Motorsport runs through Audi’s veins. From pioneering mid-engine Grand Prix cars and quattro all-wheel drive to triumphs in Le Mans, Formula E, and the Dakar Rally, Audi has long treated competition as a crucible for innovation. Formula 1 now becomes the latest — and most exacting — expression of that tradition.
In this arena, rapid development cycles and decisive engineering form a testing ground for technologies that will influence future road cars. Formula 1’s evolution toward electrified hybrid systems and sustainable fuels aligns seamlessly with Audi’s ambitions for mobility of the future.
The 2026 regulation changes present a moment of parity — a rare opportunity for newcomers and veterans alike to redefine performance from first principles. For Audi, it marks the perfect moment to ascend to the sport’s summit.

Engineering the Future: The Powertrain Made in Germany
Since 2022, Audi’s engineers in Neuburg an der Donau have been crafting the Formula 1 power unit — the only one developed entirely in Germany. The result is a 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged hybrid system integrating cutting-edge energy recovery and electric drive technologies.
With partners bp, Audi is developing sustainable fuels that will power the new generation of Formula 1 engines. The electric motor output—tripled under new regulations—will achieve near parity with the combustion engine, embodying Audi’s vision of efficiency without compromise.
In just two years, Audi achieved a significant milestone: a complete powertrain running dynamically in race simulation. These systems—meticulously refined through digital modelling and advanced simulation—will soon power Audi’s first Formula 1 prototypes.
Parallel development continues at the Hinwil F1 Factory in Switzerland, where race car construction and operations are based, complemented by a technology office in Bicester, deep within Britain’s Motorsport Valley — a hub of expertise that reinforces Audi’s cross-border technical ecosystem.
Countdown to the Grid
Audi’s official Formula 1 debut will take place in January 2026, with an unveiling that will define the next chapter of the brand’s history. Following closed-door tests in Barcelona, public sessions in Bahrain (February 2026) will mark Audi’s first laps in front of fans, culminating in a historic debut race in Melbourne, Australia (6–8 March 2026).
The road from Neuburg to Melbourne is more than a racing journey — it is the evolution of Audi’s design, technology, and identity. The R26 Concept stands as both symbol and signal: Audi is not merely entering Formula 1. It is redefining it.
