Castrol India has taken the lead in launching engine oils conforming to the latest API SQ specification, setting a new standard for passenger car motor oils in the country. The newly upgraded Castrol MAGNATEC range, now API SQ-compliant, is being proudly produced within India, reinforcing the brand’s long-standing dedication to local innovation and self-reliance.
The API SQ specification, introduced globally in April 2025, represents the pinnacle of engine oil standards set by the American Petroleum Institute. With Castrol India introducing these advanced lubricants within months of the global roll-out, Indian motorists gain almost immediate access to next-generation technology designed to elevate performance, protection, and efficiency.
“Indian drivers expect more from their cars—better fuel efficiency, lower maintenance, and performance they can count on in every condition. With the new Castrol MAGNATEC range meeting API SQ standards, we are giving them exactly that—a world-class product, made in India, and made for India. From start-up protection to long-term reliability, this is another first from Castrol, bringing a global innovation to Indian roads almost immediately after its launch worldwide,” stated Saugata Basuray, Wholetime Director, Castrol India.
The upgraded MAGNATEC engine oils promise a suite of enhancements tailored to the demands of today’s advanced engines. Key benefits include:
- Superior wear protection for modern petrol engines
- Improved fuel economy across a range of driving conditions
- Strengthened protection for catalytic converters
- Full compatibility with India’s E20 ethanol-blended fuel environment
To address varied engine requirements, the range will be available in widely used viscosities—0W-20, 5W-30, and 5W-40. These formulations meet or exceed API SQ standards and comply with ACEA C2 or C3 performance specifications, ensuring future-ready compatibility and optimal engine health.
Distribution of the new MAGNATEC range will commence across Castrol’s retail and workshop network throughout India in the coming weeks, bringing a global-first innovation directly to Indian roads.
