As India’s electric vehicle (EV) market continues its remarkable ascent, the tooling division of Godrej Enterprises Group is emerging as a cornerstone in strengthening the nation’s EV supply chain through the deployment of advanced precision tooling solutions.

With the domestic automotive industry rapidly transitioning towards electric mobility, there is an increased demand for the development of new powertrain architectures, battery enclosures, and highly accurate sheet metal components. Recognising these evolving industry imperatives, Godrej Enterprises Group has significantly enhanced its tooling capabilities to cater to the specialised requirements of EV manufacturing. The business has placed strong emphasis on delivering high-precision dies and tooling systems tailored specifically for the fabrication of critical EV components.

In anticipation of sustained demand growth, the company has proactively invested between 2–3% of its annual revenue into research and development as well as cutting-edge machinery. This forward-looking strategy is designed to foster innovation that is aligned with future manufacturing needs, while also bolstering operational efficiency.

The statistics reflect the scale of the EV boom—May 2025 alone witnessed a striking 28% year-on-year rise in EV sales, culminating in a record 1.96 million electric vehicles sold across FY2025. This surge has resulted in unprecedented demand for locally manufactured, high-precision EV parts. Godrej Enterprises has responded by significantly ramping up its focus on tooling solutions designed for the EV segment, thereby enabling Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers to seamlessly align with both the technical demands of electrification and the Indian government’s broader Make in India initiative.

Over the past three years, between 10–15% of the business’s revenue has been attributed to EV-related tooling orders—a clear reflection of the sector’s increasing reliance on precision engineering and homegrown manufacturing excellence.

Pankaj Abhyankar, Business Head of the Tooling division at Godrej Enterprises Group, commented:
“As EV manufacturers scale up production to meet growing consumer demand, they require tooling partners who understand both the technical complexities and the commercial imperatives of this rapidly evolving sector. India’s EV transition is not just about vehicles, it’s about building a resilient, self-reliant, and globally competitive ecosystem. At Godrej Enterprises Group, we are proud to be enabling this transformation through our precision engineering solutions. These world-class tooling systems help reduce dependence on imports while improving lead times, cost efficiency, and product reliability.”

As part of its commitment to local value creation, the company is also examining the potential for localising several key tools that are currently produced overseas. By manufacturing these components domestically, Godrej Enterprises aims not only to serve the Indian market more efficiently but also to enhance its global competitiveness through exports. This dual-pronged strategy—combining global servicing with local manufacturing—further underlines the firm’s vision to position India as a global hub for precision tooling in the EV space.
