Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country’s foremost passenger vehicle manufacturer, has reached a landmark moment in its illustrious journey — achieving cumulative domestic sales of 3 crore units. This remarkable feat, attained within 42 years, underscores the company’s enduring leadership, engineering excellence, and the deep trust it continues to command among Indian customers.

Tracing its growth trajectory, Maruti Suzuki crossed its first one crore cumulative sales milestone in 28 years and 2 months. The next crore arrived far more swiftly — in just 7 years and 5 months — while the most recent crore was accomplished in a record time of merely 6 years and 4 months, reflecting the brand’s growing momentum and widespread appeal across urban and rural India alike.

Among the 3 crore vehicles sold in the country, the Alto continues to reign supreme, with over 47 lakh units sold, followed closely by the Wagon R with more than 34 lakh units, and the ever-popular Swift crossing 32 lakh units. Models such as the Brezza and the Fronx have also found a coveted place among the company’s top ten most sold vehicles, reaffirming Maruti Suzuki’s knack for understanding the Indian buyer’s pulse.

The story began on 14th December 1983, when the first Maruti 800, an icon that went on to redefine personal mobility in India, was handed over to its very first customer. Since that seminal moment, Maruti Suzuki has continually evolved to meet changing customer aspirations, delivering vehicles that embody the company’s philosophy of ‘Joy of Mobility’. Today, the company boasts an extensive portfolio of 19 models and over 170 variants, each tailored to suit India’s diverse driving needs.

Commemorating this momentous occasion, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “When I look at the length and breadth of India and think that 3 crore customers have placed their trust in Maruti Suzuki to realize their dream of mobility, it fills me with humility and gratitude. Yet, with car penetration at approximately 33 vehicles per 1,000 people, we know our journey is far from over. We will continue to make every possible effort to bring the joy of mobility to as many people as we can, while also be an asset to both the economy and the environment at the same time.”

As Maruti Suzuki celebrates this extraordinary achievement, it stands not merely as a manufacturer of cars but as a symbol of India’s progress on wheels — a company that has, for over four decades, shaped aspirations, empowered mobility, and revolutionised the nation’s automotive landscape.
