Tata AutoComp Systems Limited (TACO), a key player in the Indian auto components sector, has unveiled its intention to form a 50:50 joint venture with Japan’s Ichikoh Industries Limited, a Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market-listed company majority owned (61.2%) by Valeo.
This newly formed joint venture will facilitate the acquisition of the Valeo Lighting Systems (VLS) business of Valeo India Private Limited, thereby transferring ownership of Valeo’s lighting operations in India to the TACO–Ichikoh entity.
The joint venture is envisioned to focus on delivering advanced automotive lighting solutions across the Indian market, serving the growing demands of domestic Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The definitive agreements governing the formation of the joint venture and the acquisition of the VLS business are currently being finalised, subject to requisite statutory and regulatory approvals.
Mr. Arvind Goel, Vice Chairman of Tata AutoComp, highlighted the strategic intent behind the move, stating:
“The formation of this Joint Venture would be another significant step by Tata AutoComp in offering contemporary products and technologies to automotive OEMs in India. We are pleased to welcome Ichikoh and the Valeo Group as our partner, and together with their automotive lighting expertise, we will offer technologically superior and differentiated lighting solutions to our customers.”
Echoing the sentiment, Mr. Manoj Kolhatkar, Managing Director and CEO of Tata AutoComp, noted: “The proposed Joint Venture will enhance our presence in the Indian automotive market and would enable us to serve various OEMs. This collaboration marks another milestone in Tata AutoComp’s journey of offering a comprehensive portfolio of auto-component products.”
Mr. Christophe Vilatte, Representative Director, President and CEO of Ichikoh Industries, offered his perspective on the partnership:
“Ichikoh, with more than 120 years history of technological excellence, will join forces with a new partner Tata AutoComp, strongly established with its reputational excellence. Capitalizing on our respective strength, we will be well positioned to address the fast-growing automotive market in India.”
This development underscores Tata AutoComp’s strategic vision to expand its portfolio and technological capabilities in collaboration with leading global partners. The alliance with Ichikoh—backed by the Valeo Group—places the joint venture in a strong position to deliver innovative lighting technologies tailored to the evolving needs of Indian automotive OEMs, as the industry moves rapidly towards modernisation, safety enhancements and global competitiveness.
As the final regulatory approvals are awaited, the automotive industry watches closely as this venture prepares to shape the future of automotive lighting solutions in India.
