Tata Motors and Motus Holdings unveil new Passenger Vehicle line-up for South Africa


Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), a division of India’s automotive giant Tata Motors, has formally re-entered the South African passenger vehicle market, heralding a significant new chapter in its global journey. The launch, held at The Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg, saw the unveiling of four distinctly engineered models—Harrier, Curvv, Punch, and Tiago—each designed to meet the evolving needs of South African motorists.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has officially returned to the South African market, unveiling a refreshed portfolio that includes the Harrier, Curvv, Punch and Tiago. The launch event, held at The Galleria in Sandton, marked a new chapter for the brand, which aims to offer South African buyers contemporary design, advanced safety features and strong value.

The company’s re-entry is backed by a strategic partnership with Motus Holdings, South Africa’s leading automotive group. This collaboration combines Tata Motors’ engineering and innovation capabilities with Motus’ established nationwide distribution and aftersales expertise.

TMPV has experienced rapid growth in India, expanding from 170,000 units in 2020 to over 560,000 units in 2025. All Tata models entering the South African market are rated 4 or 5 stars by Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP, underlining the brand’s focus on vehicle safety.

Speaking at the launch, Tata Motors leadership reaffirmed their commitment to delivering vehicles that meet the expectations of South African consumers in design, performance, and ownership experience. Motus executives highlighted the strength of the partnership and the opportunity to bring new-age vehicles to market with a robust support structure.

Tata Motors will initially retail through 40 dealerships across the country, expanding to 60 by 2026. The network will be supported by dedicated service infrastructure, technical training initiatives and financial partnerships to make ownership more accessible.

Harrier
The Harrier is a full-size SUV powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with 125kW and 350Nm of torque. It features a tech-rich cabin, wireless smartphone connectivity, large infotainment screens, up to six airbags, and Level 2 ADAS with 20 features.

Curvv
A bold coupe-style SUV with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 88kW and 170Nm. It offers both manual and automatic transmissions, a digital cockpit, advanced infotainment options and six airbags as standard.

Punch
A compact SUV designed for urban use, the Punch is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 65kW and 115Nm. Key features include drive modes, cruise control, wide-opening doors and a choice of infotainment systems up to 10.5 inches.

Tiago
This compact hatchback brings style and practicality with a 1.2-litre petrol engine (63kW, 113Nm), available in manual or AMT variants. It includes digital instruments, smartphone connectivity, reverse camera, and safety features across the range.

Looking ahead, Tata Motors plans to introduce additional models and alternative powertrains in South Africa, supporting its long-term commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility.
