VinFast’s new Tamil Nadu facility is the company’s third operational plant and the fifth within its global manufacturing network, signifying a crucial step in the brand’s international ambitions. The inauguration of this plant marks an exciting first for VinFast, as it is the company’s first operational facility outside Vietnam, a testament to the brand’s expansive vision and its ability to execute large-scale projects on a global scale.

Spanning an impressive 400 acres, the state-of-the-art VinFast Tamil Nadu plant is designed to meet world-class production standards. Equipped with advanced automation and cutting-edge technology, the facility houses several critical workshops, including a Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Control Centre, and Logistics Hub. The complex also includes an auxiliary cluster for local contractors, which is expected to expand as production ramps up.

When operating at full capacity, the plant will generate between 3,000 and 3,500 direct jobs for the local workforce, while also creating thousands of indirect employment opportunities within the supply chain. This will contribute significantly to Tamil Nadu’s economic development, positioning the state as a key manufacturing hub in India and potentially making it the electric vehicle capital of South Asia in the coming years.

Initially, the VinFast Tamil Nadu plant will focus on assembling two premium electric SUVs, the VF 7 and VF 6. The plant’s initial production capacity is set at 50,000 vehicles annually, with plans to scale up production to 150,000 units per year in response to growing demand. This move brings VinFast closer to its ambitious 2025 sales target of 200,000 vehicles and its ultimate long-term goal of reaching 1 million vehicles per year by 2030.

On the occasion of the inauguration, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, remarked, “The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant marks a strategic milestone in our long-term commitment to the Indian market. It establishes a strong foundation for sustainable growth and positions us to offer high-quality, competitively priced electric vehicles to Indian consumers. Looking ahead, the facility will expand its production capacity to meet rising demand. We aim to develop it into VinFast’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. In fact, we’ve already secured initial orders from several countries across these regions. In close collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, VinFast is working to transform the area into the ‘EV capital of South Asia’—supporting both the dynamic domestic market and our broader regional ambitions.”

The new Tamil Nadu plant not only enhances VinFast’s global production capabilities but also plays a pivotal role in advancing India’s green industrial development. With a focus on local supplier collaboration, the facility will drive supply chain localisation, technology transfer, and workforce upskilling, contributing to the development of a sustainable and competitive EV ecosystem within India.

Since entering India, VinFast has been actively building a comprehensive EV ecosystem that encompasses assembly, distribution, after-sales services, and recycling. The Tamil Nadu plant plays a central role in this integrated approach. In addition, VinFast has partnered with multiple dealer groups in key cities and has joined forces with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to establish a robust digital services and after-sales support network. Furthermore, the company has collaborated with BatX Energies to develop solutions for battery recovery and reuse, further enhancing its commitment to circular production and sustainable growth in the rapidly growing Indian market.

In summary, the inauguration of the VinFast Tamil Nadu plant underscores the company’s dedication to promoting sustainable mobility in India, with the plant serving as a cornerstone of VinFast’s expansion strategy and its broader vision for a greener global future.
