MUMBAI :

As Tata Motors’ first product, based on their ALFA architecture, the Altroz, turns one, the company, has marked the occasion by unveiling yet another variant, the new Altroz iTurbo.

On offer is a brand new colour – Harbour Blue – which will be available on all variants from Altroz XM+ and above and this should find a lot of takers. Besides, the iTurbo, also gets a contrasting black roof for two of their six trims, the XZ and XZ+.

The new Altroz iTurbo will come with a 1.2-liter Revotron (petrol) engine that has been mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which puts out 110 PS@ 5500 rpm and 140 Nm@ 1500-5500 rpm. The Revotron engine, you may recall, has been developed indigenously with the aim of offering not just an exhilarating driving performance but also with the goal of ensuring that the car buyers don’t end up burning a hole in their pockets. The iTurbo also comes with a Sport mode for a more thrilling driving experience and is capable of doing 0-100 in less than 12 seconds! A DCT may well be in the offing but Tata Motors is choosing to remain tight lipped about it, for now.

The Altroz iTurbo comes with iRA Tech – (Intelligent Realtime Assist) a connected car technology by Tata Motors that offers more than 27 features such as vehicle diagnostics and vehicle immobilizer with five layers of connectivity… all at your fingertips. That’s not all, the new Altroz iTurbo will not just understand your commands in Hindi and English but now, it will even be able to understand them in Hinglish. So, you can say things like “Volume zyada karo (Increase the volume) or Volume kam karo (Decrease the volume), and voila, you will experience it happening! Tata Motors says that there are 70 commands which have been fed in and which can be used to make your life simpler. Then, there’s also the ‘What 3 Words’ technology which through a unique permutation and combination of words, based on the three words that you say out aloud, accurately takes you to the desired address!

A black and light grey colour theme (standard across all variants) adorns the interiors which should also appeal to many. Also, the leatherette seats with quality fit and finish are expected to further enhance the interior’s looks.

Besides, there is also Xpress Cool which allows you to quickly cool your car’s cabin by setting the temperature to maximum cooling, for those days when it feels like your car has been sitting under the hot sun for hours at a stretch, transforming itself into nothing short of a baking oven.

Then, just like the personalized wallpaper on your cell phone’s screen, now, you can even get one on your infotainment screen as well which further adds a more personalized touch.

Also, there are One shot up power windows that have been provided to make your driving experience more comfortable. It definitely seems like the folks at Tata Motors have gone the extra mile to provide all these features which are usually seen in a car that is a segment higher, and that sure speaks volumes.

The Altroz iTurbo also gets two additional tweeters by Harman thereby providing you with an even more enhanced acoustic experience.

Being India’s safest hatchback with a 5-Star rating from Global NCAP, Tata Motors, have just elevated the entire Altroz experience to another level with the introduction of the iTurbo variant. Bookings open at dealerships from tomorrow and the pre-booking amount is INR 11,000. Needless to say, Tata Motors knows only too well that they have to price the iTurbo right so that it can take on rivals such as the Hyundai i20 and the VW Polo 1.0 TSI which also happen to have quite a bit of fan following in our country. However, since it is a product from Tata Motors's stables, it should be safe to assume that they would have done their Math! As for us, we just can’t wait to get behind the wheel and bring you a full review of what the iTurbo drives like. Price reveal on January 22nd, 2021. Stay tuned.
