Volkswagen Golf GTI set for Indian debut; Bookings open May 5
Volkswagen India opens pre-bookings for the iconic Golf GTI Mk 8.5, bringing the performance hatchback to Indian roads for the first time.

MUMBAI
Volkswagen India has announced the commencement of pre-bookings for the Volkswagen Golf GTI, starting May 5, 2025. The latest iteration, the Golf GTI Mk 8.5, marks the first time the model will be made available to Indian buyers via a limited allocation.
The Golf GTI, long recognized for its motorsport lineage and performance pedigree, will be offered as a Fully Built Unit (FBU). This launch introduces Indian customers to a model that has been celebrated internationally for its engineering, design, and driving dynamics.
Speaking on the development, Mr. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, said, “The Golf GTI is revered as one of the most iconic cars globally, and we are truly proud to offer customers in India the opportunity to own a piece of Volkswagen’s performance legacy. It’s a car that blends everyday usability with turbocharged driving experience – perfect for discerning enthusiasts who appreciate precision engineering designed to deliver thrilling performance. It’s an embodiment of German Engineering at its finest.”
Performance figures for the Golf GTI Mk 8.5 include 265 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
Pre-bookings will be available exclusively through the official Volkswagen India website (www.volkswagen.co.in) for a limited time. Due to restricted availability, interested buyers are encouraged to book early. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in June 2025 through select dealerships across the country.
