In a strategic move to bolster its production capacity and align with India’s industrial growth, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) has laid the foundation for its second manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda, Haryana. The new plant marks a significant milestone for the company as it continues to expand its footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing two-wheeler markets.

Spread over 100 acres, with 25 acres earmarked for manufacturing operations, the new plant will see an initial investment of approximately INR 1,200 crore. In its first phase, it will have an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units. The facility is expected to become operational by 2027.

The foundation stone ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Mr. Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India; Mr. Takashi Ise, Executive General Manager, Motorcycle Operations, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan; and Mr. Tsuyoshi Tanaka, Executive General Manager, Quality Assurance and Inspection Operations, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan. Also present were senior leadership teams from Suzuki Motor Corporation and SMIPL, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Sonipat, and Ms. Kyoko Hokugo, Minister of Economics, Embassy of Japan in India.

The plant is part of SMIPL’s broader strategy to meet growing market demand, enhance operational capabilities, and contribute to regional development.

“Laying the foundation stone for our second plant in India, reflects our focus on not just growing as a brand, but to grow with the people and communities of India,” said Mr. Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. “By establishing our facility at IMT Kharkhoda, we look forward to contributing to the region’s development, generating employment, and supporting the government’s vision for industrial progress. Parallelly, the Kharkhoda plant will help us to serve our customers better, support our dealer partners and strengthen collaboration with our suppliers. The basic concept of this plant is lean manufacturing. It will also feature modern automation and energy-efficient systems, helping us move towards Suzuki’s global vision for carbon neutrality and Sustainability.”

In line with Suzuki’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the plant will dedicate an additional 25 acres to green space. Once operational, it is expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 2,000 people, further supporting economic growth in the region.

The Kharkhoda facility underscores SMIPL’s long-term commitment to the Indian market and reinforces the company’s role in India’s evolving mobility landscape.
