As the Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) accelerates towards its highly anticipated Season 2 auction this August, the organisers have announced a groundbreaking development in domestic motorsport: the introduction of a Rider Retention mechanism.

For the first time in Indian motorsport history, franchise teams will be permitted to retain up to two riders from their Season 1 squad, subject to one per racing category. This strategic framework not only enhances continuity within teams but also introduces a compelling layer of tactical planning ahead of the forthcoming auction.

In adopting a practice common among global sports leagues, ISRL continues to align itself with international standards—further reinforcing its ambition to position India as a premier destination on the global Supercross map.

With a record 155 riders from 23 countries registered for the Season 2 auction, the stakes have never been higher. The retention mechanism allows franchises to safeguard their core talent, even as they prepare for the high-octane bidding battles that will define the final team compositions.

“These are exciting times for the ISRL as we head into Season 2. India is fast becoming a premier destination for Supercross. With rider retention in play, team selection will demand sharp strategy. We’re confident this season will feature the highest calibre of racing ever seen in India, and possibly Asia.” — Eeshan Lokhande, Co-Founder, Indian Supercross Racing League

What Does Rider Retention Mean for Teams?

Each franchise from Season 1 is now allowed to retain up to two riders, with the caveat that only one rider may be kept per racing category. This regulation compels even the most successful teams to make difficult decisions, preserving the competitive balance of the league while rewarding long-term planning and consistency.

Team Retention Announcements: Strategy Meets Substance

BB Racing
BB Racing have confirmed the retention of Jordy Tixier, the formidable winner of the All Stars category in Season 1 and a standout performer throughout. With a revamped squad being assembled around him, BB Racing is signalling clear championship intent.

“Jordy is a rare combination of skill, pace, and determination. We believe this fresh lineup around him will make us serious title contenders.” – Atul Chordia, BB Racing Team Owner

Mohite Racing
In a move that has surprised many, Mohite Racing has chosen not to retain any riders, opting for a complete rebuild. Backed by a global talent pool, the team is set to approach the auction with a clean slate and renewed strategic vision.

“We evaluated our options and believe that going in with a clean slate allows us to approach Season 2 with renewed focus and precision.” – Abhishek Mohite, Mohite Racing Team Owner

Reise Motorsports
Reise Motorsports will continue their campaign with Thomas Remett, who finished third overall in the 450cc category during Season 1. With Remett as the cornerstone, the team is preparing to assemble a formidable lineup.

“Thomas has been a fan favourite and a fierce competitor. We’re excited to build a winning team around him.” – Yogesh Mahansaria, Reise Motorsports Team Owner

BigRock Motorsports
The reigning champions, BigRock Motorsports, have opted to retain Thanarath Penjan—the 250cc India Asia category champion. However, they’ve made the difficult decision not to retain Matt Moss and Reid Taylor, both instrumental in last season’s triumph.

“Matt and Reid were vital to our championship run, and we thank them for their contribution. With Thanarat back, we’re excited to build a fresh, stronger team for Season 2.” — C.S. Santosh, Co-Owner, BigRock Motorsports

Gujarat Trailblazers
Gujarat Trailblazers have elected to retain Enzo Polias, a consistent and skilled presence in the 250cc International category. They’re also reportedly eyeing a comeback in the junior’s category with Thai sensation Brian Giles, whose dynamic performances captivated crowds last season.

“Enzo gives us strength and stability; Brian brings flair and excitement. We’re aiming for the perfect balance this season.” – Dhrumil Patel, Gujarat Trailblazers Team Owner

Looking Ahead: A New Era for Indian Supercross

With the Season 2 auction set for late August, the introduction of rider retention has transformed the competitive landscape of Indian Supercross. Franchises now face a fascinating blend of continuity and recalibration—balancing the strength of known talent with the allure of fresh potential.

The auction promises high-stakes drama, fierce bidding wars, and a level of strategic depth unprecedented in Indian motorsport. As the ISRL continues to push boundaries, fans can expect nothing less than a spectacular showcase of elite racing, both on and off the track.
