The latest edition of the Traffic Infratech Expo 2025, held from 7 – 9 October 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, showcased a major technological upgrade in traffic policing with the launch of the new Bike Interceptor. The innovation is designed to make rule enforcement faster, smarter and more effective on busy roads.
Unlike the four-wheeler interceptors used hitherto, this Bike Interceptor enables traffic police to issue challans while patrolling on a motorcycle. It features advanced cameras capable of capturing violations such as speeding, signal-jumping and riding without helmets in real time. The system also permits installation of these cameras at fixed roadside locations, allowing for continuous surveillance even in the absence of the interceptor itself.
When a vehicle is detected speeding, officers may either bring it to a halt and issue a challan on the spot or rely on the high-tech camera system to capture the violation remotely. The Bike Interceptor employs an HD camera and advanced radar to detect speeding vehicles from distances of 200 to 700 metres. The radar emits radio waves that bounce off the on-coming vehicle and return to the system; based on these reflected signals the camera calculates and displays the exact speed on a monitor for the officer.
Also demonstrated at the expo was multi-lane free-flow technology, enabling vehicles to traverse highways at speeds of 100 or 120 km/h without stopping at toll booths. The current challenge in toll taxation lies in the use of FASTag collection, which often causes vehicle queues when tolls are being deducted; problems with FASTag exacerbate the delay.
The 2025 edition of Traffic Infratech not only foregrounded next-generation solutions but also emphasised a dedicated theme of “Transforming Transportation for the Future”. The event featured a memorandum of understanding between Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) and International Centre for Automotive Testing (ICAT) for indigenous technology development in the automotive sector. Expert sessions included “Digital Twin for Mobility – Building Transportation Solutions with Local Technologies” and a high-level panel discussion titled “Strategic support for homegrown technology solutions in the transportation sector.”
The inauguration ceremony was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including A. Satish Ganesh, IPS, ADGP, Traffic & Road Safety, Uttar Pradesh; Ansshuman Singh, Managing Director, Superwave Communication and Infrasolution Pvt Ltd; A. L. Narasimhan, Vice President – Strategic Business Alliances, Prama India Pvt Ltd; Ravi Kumar C. K., Vice President – Business Development (Government & PSUs), Videonetics Technology Pvt Ltd; Peter Kozej, Intelligent Transport Solutions Team Lead, SkyToll; J. P. Nair, Managing Director, Virtual Info Systems Pvt Ltd; Winston Pereira, Executive Director, Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd; Mangala Chandran, Editor-in-Chief of TrafficInfraTech Magazine and Director, Virtual Info Systems Pvt Ltd; and Sagar Nanal, Group Head – Mobility & Technology Shows, Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd. Their presence underscored the significance of the gathering as a major confluence of traffic-management, infrastructure and intelligent-mobility professionals.
Organised with the backing of prominent ministries and associations, including the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) and the National Highway Builders Fund (NHBF).
As Ms Mangala Chandran remarked: “Our goal is to equip traffic police with state-of-the-art technology and make roads safer. Therefore, by organising this expo every year, we bring together the developers and users of new technologies on one platform.” On this occasion, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director & Board Member of Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, stated: “At Messe Frankfurt India, our commitment to create platforms that don’t just showcase technologies but actively drive industry conversations and policy alignment. Traffic Infratech Expo has evolved into an ecosystem where government, industry leaders and innovators converge to shape the future of mobility. This year’s edition, with its scale and focus on responsible infrastructure, reflects India’s ambition to lead in safe, sustainable and technology-driven transport solutions.”
In sum, the Bike Interceptor is poised to usher in a new chapter of enforcement-ready mobility, linking high-precision radar and camera systems with real-time police action, a step that may well define the next generation of traffic policing on Indian thoroughfares.
