MONACO
Jaguar has unveiled an arresting new chapter in its electric transformation with the Type 01 prototypes making a dramatic appearance around the iconic Monaco circuit ahead of the Formula E E-Prix on 16 May.
Set against some of motorsport’s most celebrated landmarks, from Sainte-Dévote to Casino Square and La Rascasse, the luxury four-door GT prototypes delivered a compelling preview of Jaguar’s future design and engineering direction. Cloaked in a distinctive camouflage wrap, the Type 01 combines artistic expression with unmistakable brand identity, featuring Jaguar’s signature strikethrough motif alongside straight and circular monolithic strokes rendered in vibrant hues.

The Principality has long held significance for Jaguar. Monte Carlo’s legendary streets have formed the backdrop to numerous milestones in the marque’s history, including Jaguar TCS Racing’s Formula E triumph in 2024. Now, Monaco becomes the stage upon which Jaguar signals the beginning of a new electric era.
Importantly, the development of the Type 01 has been directly shaped by technology proven through Jaguar’s World Championship-winning Formula E programme. Expertise gleaned from the race circuit has helped engineers refine an electric grand tourer engineered to deliver a uniquely instinctive driving experience.
Type 01’s responses have been meticulously honed using learnings from Jaguar TCS Racing’s all-wheel drive control software and fast-switching silicon carbide-powered inverters. The result, Jaguar says, is a modern GT that blends composure with formidable performance. Regenerative braking capability, driving range and fast-charging efficiency have also benefitted from innovations developed through motorsport.

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said: “To achieve our vision for Type 01, we not only harnessed our Formula E know-how but also embedded the competition mindset of Jaguar TCS Racing in our engineering teams. This helped us develop innovative solutions for our luxury four-door GT that drives like no other electric car.”
The Type 01 name itself was revealed ahead of the Monaco E-Prix weekend and appears integrated into the strikethrough motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen. The bold linear graphics preview a defining visual signature for future Jaguar models.
The ‘Type’ designation carries deep historical significance within Jaguar’s lineage, first appearing on the Le Mans-winning C-type of 1951. Over decades, it evolved into a hallmark representing two distinct characters within a single machine, exhilarating performance paired with refinement and composure. Icons such as the E-type and the later F-TYPE embodied that philosophy.
In the Type 01, the ‘0’ symbolises electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while the ‘1’ denotes its position as the first Jaguar of an entirely new era. Designed, developed and built in the heart of the United Kingdom, the Type 01 will spearhead Jaguar’s future portfolio.
Jaguar has confirmed that the new luxury four-door GT will be fully revealed later this year. Its exuberant modernist design language, pioneering technologies and instinctive driving dynamics are expected to underpin the next generation of Jaguar models.
The British marque describes its future vision with characteristic clarity: deep reserves of power, refined comfort, and two characters in one car.
