Ola Electric is opening its sales and service network to dealer partners across India, signalling a significant change in how the electric two-wheeler maker intends to build scale in the country’s increasingly mature EV market.
The move comes five years after Ola Electric launched its first electric scooters and represents a structural shift in the company’s go-to-market approach. Having initially relied on a company-owned retail network to establish its presence, the company will now use dealer partners as the backbone of local sales, service and expansion across India.
The strategy reflects a broader evolution in Ola Electric’s business as consumer acceptance of electric vehicles has grown. In its early years, the company built its retail footprint through company-owned stores, using them to create awareness around EVs, establish the brand and develop what it describes as India’s largest EV two-wheeler customer base, with more than 1 million riders.
That phase, however, is now giving way to a more distributed model.
Over the coming months, Ola Electric’s company-owned stores will transition towards a greater emphasis on brand and product experience, while dealer partners will increasingly drive sales and service closer to customers across local markets.
For Ola Electric, the shift is not simply an expansion of its retail footprint. It represents a change in the way the company intends to translate its established EV presence into broader geographical reach and greater on-ground execution.
The move follows a month of engagement with dealers across the country. Ola Electric said the response has been strong, with dealers expressing confidence that its product portfolio, combined with their understanding of local markets, can meaningfully accelerate both Ola’s sales and EV adoption in India more broadly.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Ola Electric, said: “This is a big shift in how we go to market, and one that reflects where the EV industry in India is headed. We built our own stores first because trust in EVs had to be earned store by store, city by city. That phase built the foundation. Now, as the category matures, our job is to bring EVs to every corner of the country, and dealer partners understand their local markets in ways no company owned network can replicate at that scale. Company stores will now be where customers experience the brand and the product at their best, while our dealer partners carry that experience into every town and neighbourhood in India.”
For prospective dealer partners, Ola Electric is positioning the new model around several elements of its existing business. These include the brand pull it has built over five years in the market, alongside a recurring service opportunity arising from its installed base of more than 1 million EV two-wheeler customers.
The company is also offering dealers access to its full product portfolio, spanning scooters, motorcycles and energy products including Ola Shakti, with more energy products planned. Ola Electric said its dealer economics model has also been designed to provide strong partner returns.
The significance of the move lies in the balance between centralised brand control and local market execution. While company-owned stores have played a key role in establishing Ola Electric’s identity and customer experience, a dealer-led network gives the company a mechanism to extend sales and service reach through partners with established knowledge of individual markets.
Ola Electric expects the programme to deliver meaningful on-ground scale by Diwali 2026, providing a defined timeline for the next phase of its retail and service expansion.
As part of the transition, BVR Subbu will rejoin Ola Electric as Senior Advisor to support execution. Subbu, former President of Hyundai Motors India, previously served on Ola Electric’s board and has been a mentor to Aggarwal.
His return adds further industry experience to a transition that could prove important for Ola Electric as it moves from building an EV retail proposition largely through its own network towards a broader, partner-led model.
For the company, the central proposition is clear: its company-owned stores will increasingly serve as destinations for brand and product experience, while dealer partners are expected to take the electric vehicle proposition deeper into India’s towns and neighbourhoods.
The shift therefore marks more than a change in retail structure. It is Ola Electric’s next attempt to convert the scale of its existing customer base, product portfolio and brand presence into wider market penetration as India’s electric two-wheeler category continues to mature.
