Mahindra Racing clinches Third in FIA Formula E World Championship

Mahindra Racing ended the GEN3 era of the FIA Formula E World Championship on a high, securing third in the 2025/26 Teams’ World Championship after Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara finished second and third respectively in the final race at London’s ExCeL Circuit.

The result took Mahindra Racing to 252 points, its highest single-season total and a tally that matches its best championship finish. The team also ended the campaign with two wins, five further podiums and five pole positions.

Rounds 16 and 17 of the 2025/2026 FIA Formula E Championship produced two unpredictable races in London, with the final championship positions going down to the wire.

Saturday saw Mahindra Racing mark Indian Independence Day with a strong recovery drive from Mortara. Both drivers had featured prominently in practice, although qualifying proved more difficult, with de Vries starting ninth and Mortara 18th after qualifying 13th.

A late Full Course Yellow disrupted de Vries’ strategy, leaving him 13th at the chequered flag. Mortara, meanwhile, gained 11 places to finish seventh.

The team bounced back decisively on Sunday. De Vries and Mortara progressed through the Duels to create an all-Mahindra Final, with de Vries defeating his team-mate to take pole and secure Mahindra’s first front-row lockout. It was also his fifth pole of the 2026 season.

Both cars made clean starts, with de Vries retaining the lead after activating Attack Mode on Lap 6. Mortara followed a lap later but missed the activation point, before eventually moving into first.

On Lap 22, Mortara activated his Attack Mode without relinquishing the lead. De Vries subsequently moved back ahead, with the two Mahindra drivers synchronising their final Attack Mode allocation in the closing stages.

A late Attack Mode deployment from Taylor Barnard denied Mahindra victory, but second and third secured a crucial double podium and a 42-point haul from the London double-header.

Mortara finished fifth in the Drivers’ Championship on 137 points, while de Vries ended seventh on 115 points.

Reflecting on the result, de Vries said: “We couldn’t have wished for a better end. Our objective this weekend was to finish third in the Teams’ Championship which I think was a realistic but challenging target. We had a tough Saturday, but bounced back today and everyone delivered. We executed and raced like a team.

“I can sense a subtle disappointment for not winning, which I think is fair, but ultimately, our main priority was to finish third and that’s what we’ve achieved by racing the way we did. We can be very happy. A double podium is a great result and honestly, we can’t wish for anything more.”

Team Principal & CEO Frederic Bertrand added: “Today is an important result for Mahindra Racing. To finish the season with our first front-row lockout, both cars on the podium and third in the Teams’ World Championship says a great deal about the level this team has reached.”

He added: “Mahindra took the first pole of the GEN3 era and the last. We can be proud of the way we have closed this chapter, and now our responsibility is to carry this level of work into GEN4.”
