Gestamp opens fifth India production facility in Gujarat with INR 523.7 Crore investment

Gestamp has inaugurated its fifth production facility in India at Bhagapura, Gujarat, committing INR 523.7 Cr across phases 1 and 2 as the automotive component manufacturer deepens its presence in the country after 20 years of operations.

The facility was inaugurated by Francisco J. Riberas, Executive Chairman of Gestamp; Antonio López, CEO Asia; Glyn Jones, Country Manager and President of Gestamp India; and Patricia Riberas, Chief Corporate Officer.

The investment comes as global light vehicle production is expected to decline in 2026, with Gestamp pursuing a selective investment strategy that prioritises growth markets while containing overall capital expenditure worldwide. India remains central to that approach, with S&P Global Mobility currently forecasting light vehicle production in the country to reach 7.8 million units by 2030, 28% above 2025 levels.

Employing around 240 people, the Bhagapura plant currently provides 31,790 sqm of manufacturing capacity. Its facilities include two hot-stamping lines, a laser cutting line and welding cells for assembly operations. Further capacity could be added if future developments are approved to address rising demand.

Designed for efficiency, flexibility and technological performance, the Bhagapura facility manufactures highly engineered body-in-white (BiW) components and is equipped to produce products from the Ges-Gigastamping® family. These large, lightweight components help optimise vehicle efficiency, reduce CO₂ emissions, enhance safety and streamline vehicle assembly.

Gestamp has also installed an energy-monitoring system to identify and eliminate inefficiencies and optimise consumption. The plant plans to enter agreements for electricity certified as originating from renewable sources.

Gestamp entered India in 2006 and began developing its own manufacturing footprint from 2010. Its five facilities now span Pune, Chennai and Bhagapura, giving the company 188,000 sqm of manufacturing capacity and 14 stamping lines, including five using hot stamping. Two more hot-stamping lines are being installed.

The company generates approximately 2,300 jobs in India, while revenues rose by more than 80% over the last five full financial years to €245 million by the end of 2025.
