AXOR, the premium helmet brand from Vega Auto, has unveiled the AXOR MX Carbon, introducing what the company claims is the World’s lightest triple-certified off-road helmet.

Weighing approximately 1,050 grams in a large shell (±50 grams), with smaller shell sizes expected to be 50 grams lesser, the helmet features a predominantly carbon-fibre shell and meets ECE 22.06, DOT and ISI certification requirements.

The AXOR MX Carbon has been engineered around one of the key challenges in off-road helmet development: reducing weight without compromising the certification requirements expected of a performance-oriented helmet. By optimising carbon-fibre usage, construction and manufacturing processes, AXOR says it has developed a significantly lighter helmet while retaining certification across multiple standards.

For riders, the reduced weight is intended to minimise helmet fatigue during extended off-road riding, supporting greater comfort through long rides and demanding technical terrain.

The MX Carbon also represents the culmination of Vega Auto’s nearly three-decade experience in carbon fibre and composite engineering. The company began its carbon fibre journey in 1998, subsequently developing expertise in carbon fibre development, composite manufacturing and helmet engineering.

This capability has been further strengthened by recent investment of approximately ₹2 crore in composite manufacturing, while Vega Auto has scaled its composite division to three times its 2020 capacity. The investments have expanded its in-house capabilities in advanced composite materials and lightweight, high-performance helmet development.

“We started our carbon fibre journey in 1998 with a long-term belief in the material and its potential to transform helmet engineering. The MX Carbon brings that journey together in a product that demonstrates what can be achieved when material expertise, manufacturing capability and helmet engineering come together. More importantly, it is a product designed and manufactured in India for riders who demand a high level of performance from their equipment. We believe this is an important step in showcasing the capabilities we have built in India over nearly three decades.” says Mr. Dilip Chandak, Chairman, Vega Auto

Designed and manufactured at Vega Auto’s facilities in Belgaum, Karnataka, the helmet brings together carbon fibre development, composite manufacturing and final helmet engineering within India.

“The engineering challenge with the MX Carbon was not simply to make a lighter helmet. It was to optimise the material, construction and manufacturing process to achieve a significantly reduced weight while meeting the required certification standards. At approximately 1,040 grams, the result reflects years of learning in carbon fibre and composite manufacturing. We see this as an important step towards bringing lightweight engineering into a wider range of helmet applications.” says Mr. Girdhari Chandak, Managing Director, Vega Auto

The AXOR MX Carbon also marks the beginning of Vega Auto’s broader lightweight engineering roadmap, with the company planning future helmet platforms and wider applications of its lightweight engineering expertise.
