Hyundai Motor India Limited (Hyundai Motor India Limited) has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model for the Hyundai CRETA Electric, signalling a pivotal shift in its strategy to accelerate electric vehicle adoption across India. By decoupling the battery cost from the vehicle’s purchase price, the initiative directly addresses one of the most significant barriers to EV uptake — the high upfront acquisition cost.
Under this new ownership structure, customers can now access the Hyundai CRETA Electric at a starting price of ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with battery EMI options beginning at an accessible ₹3.9 per kilometre. The model is designed to offer greater financial flexibility while retaining access to Hyundai’s established electric mobility technology.
Alongside this structural innovation, Hyundai has further refined the ownership proposition of the CRETA Electric. The SUV now features an integrated Side Foot Step, enhancing ease of ingress and egress while reinforcing its premium stance. Responding to customer feedback and evolving market demand, the company will also offer a 7.4 kW wall box charger in the HC variants of the lineup, enabling a more seamless home-charging experience.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said: “At HMIL, we believe the future of mobility must be accessible, intelligent and customer centric. The introduction of Battery-as-a-Service for the Hyundai CRETA Electric is a transformational step towards democratizing electric mobility in India. By significantly reducing the initial acquisition cost and offering flexible battery rental plans, we are enabling more customers to confidently transition to EVs while enjoying Hyundai’s trusted technology, safety and innovation.”
Built on the strong legacy of the CRETA nameplate and Hyundai’s proven battery management systems, the Hyundai CRETA Electric blends SUV robustness with advanced electric mobility, connected technologies, and an emphasis on comfort and safety.
The model has already demonstrated its capabilities through extensive real-world evaluations, including the Hyundai Test Driven by 100 campaign. In this initiative, 100 creators tested the CRETA Electric across 10 states, 26 cities and more than 200 destinations, covering over 15,000 km. Conducted over 100+ days, the campaign highlighted the SUV’s adaptability across varied terrains and climates, generating significant digital traction with 526 million views and 35 million likes.
Further cementing its performance credentials, the Hyundai CRETA Electric achieved a national milestone by recording the “Maximum Distance Covered by an Electric Car in 24 Hours” in the India Book of Records, completing 1,326.5 km. During the same endurance run, it also set a benchmark for the fastest 1,000 km, achieving the distance in just 18 hours and 31 minutes.
Hyundai is simultaneously strengthening its broader electric vehicle ecosystem in India. As part of its long-term roadmap, the brand plans to install close to 600 fast public EV charging stations over the next seven years. So far, it has already established infrastructure across 183 locations, comprising 214 DC chargers and 399 charging points.
To further enhance accessibility, the myHyundai application integrates an EV Charge feature, allowing users to locate and utilise more than 10,000 charging points across the country, thereby supporting a more seamless and confident transition to electric mobility.
As Hyundai continues to expand its EV footprint in India, the introduction of the BaaS model for the CRETA Electric underscores a broader commitment to democratising electric mobility through innovation, affordability, and infrastructure-led confidence.
