Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics LAB has achieved a significant global design milestone after MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid) was recognised as a ‘Winner’ at the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026, widely regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.
Developed as a next-generation mobile robot platform, MobED has been engineered to operate seamlessly across a broad spectrum of terrains and applications, reinforcing Hyundai Motor Group’s expanding focus on robotics-led future mobility solutions.
“The question was never whether the technology works, but whether it works for people, in the real world, at scale. With MobED’s Red Dot recognition, we have demonstrated exactly that. This is Physical AI in practice, and we will continue to push the boundaries of what it can achieve,” said Minwoo Park, President and Head of AVP Division of Hyundai Motor Group.
At the core of MobED’s recognition lies the Robotics LAB’s distinctive ‘Refined Edge’ design philosophy, an approach centred on enabling robotic systems to integrate naturally and intuitively within everyday human environments. The philosophy informs both the platform’s visual identity and its interaction design, ensuring the robot appears approachable, trustworthy and seamlessly adaptable within human-centred spaces.

MobED further distinguishes itself through Hyundai Motor Group’s proprietary Drive and Lift (DnL) technology alongside an advanced Eccentric Wheel mechanism. Together, these systems enable the platform to maintain exceptional stability while traversing uneven surfaces, steep inclines and curbs with remarkable composure. The breakthrough significantly broadens the operational scope for robotics platforms, allowing deployment beyond controlled indoor settings into dynamic, real-world environments.
In addition to its sophisticated mobility hardware, MobED integrates AI-based control systems that facilitate adaptive operation across a variety of applications, including logistics, delivery services, inspection duties and autonomous mobility solutions. The platform’s combination of purposeful engineering and intelligent functionality played a pivotal role in securing recognition from the Red Dot jury.
The award also underscores how mobility innovation is rapidly evolving beyond traditional vehicle formats, with robotics increasingly emerging as a critical pillar in future transportation ecosystems.
As a scalable and modular platform, MobED represents Hyundai Motor Group’s broader vision of interconnected future mobility, where robotics technologies play an integral role in enhancing and connecting everyday life experiences.

MobED first made its public debut as a concept at CES 2022 before evolving into a production-ready model unveiled at the International Robot Exhibition 2025 (iREX 2025). The progression reflects Hyundai Motor Group’s sustained advancements in both robotics engineering and design sophistication as it accelerates its ambitions in Physical AI and intelligent mobility solutions.
