Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has inaugurated its advanced manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune, Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone in its Indian growth journey as the company celebrates 30 years in the country and records cumulative passenger vehicle exports of four million units since 1999.

Inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the facility was attended by senior representatives of the Indian and South Korean governments, alongside Hyundai Motor Group and Hyundai Motor Company leadership. The inauguration underscores Hyundai’s long-term commitment to India’s manufacturing capabilities, exports and future mobility ecosystem.

The Pune plant currently has an installed annual production capacity of 170,000 units, with phased expansion planned to increase this to 320,000 units by 2030. Combined with its Chennai operations, HMIL’s total annual manufacturing capacity is expected to reach nearly 1.14 million units by the end of the decade. The facility will also produce 150,000 engines annually through its advanced engine shop.

Commenting on the milestone, Fadnavis said, “The inauguration of Hyundai Motor India’s Pune plant and the company’s achievement of 4 million cumulative passenger vehicle exports reflect India’s growing strength as a global automotive manufacturing hub. Hyundai’s continued investments in advanced manufacturing technologies, innovation, localization and skill development will contribute significantly to economic growth, employment generation and development of a robust automotive ecosystem in Maharashtra. We welcome Hyundai’s long-term commitment to the state and the nation. The Government of Maharashtra shall extend our full support to Hyundai’s future growth journey.”

Developed as one of Hyundai Motor Company’s most advanced global manufacturing facilities, the Pune plant integrates Industry 4.0 technologies, AI-enabled production systems and Hyundai’s E-FOREST digital factory platform. Predictive maintenance, digital simulations, augmented reality-based workforce training and AI-driven quality inspection are central to its smart manufacturing framework. Flexible production systems are also designed to accommodate multiple models, including internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles in the future.

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung reaffirmed India’s strategic importance, saying, “India remains one of Hyundai’s most important and strategic markets globally. The inauguration of the Pune plant reflects our long-term commitment to India’s growth and our confidence in its bright future. HMIL’s milestone of 4 million cumulative vehicle exports demonstrates the global competitiveness of Indian manufacturing and highlights India’s growing role within Hyundai Motor Group’s worldwide operations.”

HMIL has committed to investing INR 11,000 crore in phases at the Pune facility. Its regional supplier ecosystem, comprising 55 partners, has already attracted nearly INR 4,600 crore in investment, generating more than 18,000 employment opportunities across Maharashtra, including through Tier-II vendors.

Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg said the facility would drive industrial development, innovation and employment generation. He added that HMIL remained committed to creating long-term value as it marked three decades in India.

Beyond manufacturing, Hyundai is strengthening its research and electrification initiatives through academic partnerships with seven leading Indian institutions and nearly 40 ongoing projects focused on battery technologies and future mobility. Its people-centric campus, recognised with the 2026 Red Dot Award for workplace design, further reflects its focus on employee well-being and innovation.

Through the Hyundai Motor India Foundation, the company is also advancing environmental conservation, healthcare, education, safe drinking water and community welfare across Maharashtra.

With expanded manufacturing capacity, advanced production technologies and a growing supplier network, the Pune plant marks a new chapter in Hyundai Motor India’s ambitions for localisation, exports and sustainable mobility.
