MUMBAI
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has launched the XUV 3XO ZNG in India at a starting price of ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), marking the SUV manufacturer’s entry into the mainstream CNG passenger vehicle segment. Combining turbocharged performance with the economy of compressed natural gas (CNG), the new SUV aims to redefine expectations of what a CNG-powered vehicle can deliver.
At the heart of the Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG is a 1.2-litre mStallion TCMPFi turbocharged engine, developing 82 kW of power and 200 Nm of torque in both CNG and petrol modes. With certified fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/kg, the SUV seeks to reconcile everyday running-cost savings with the responsive performance associated with the XUV 3XO. Mahindra claims best-in-class torque among CNG passenger vehicles in India, available between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm.
Performance figures underline that intent. The XUV 3XO ZNG accelerates from 0–60 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaches 100 km/h from rest in 11.8 seconds in CNG mode. Optimised turbocharger calibration and ECU mapping are designed to maintain identical power and torque outputs, irrespective of the selected fuel. Should the CNG supply run low, the vehicle automatically switches to petrol, helping ensure uninterrupted journeys.
Practicality has also been central to the packaging. Its twin-cylinder CNG system sits beneath the luggage area, preserving a flat loading floor and 270 litres of usable boot space, while the spare wheel remains mounted under the body. An NGV fast-filling valve facilitates quicker refuelling, complemented by average and instantaneous fuel-economy displays.
The XUV 3XO ZNG also places considerable emphasis on equipment. Even the entry variant features a 26.03 cm HD touchscreen, cruise control, rear air-conditioning vents and a 60:40 split rear seat. Higher-specification highlights include twin 26.03 cm screens, Skyroof™, Dolby Atmos audio, black leatherette seats, a body-coloured/gunmetal grey grille#, a dual-tone roof and R16 painted black alloy wheels.
Safety provisions extend across the range, with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control and ISOFIX child-seat mounts as standard. Integrated gas-leak detection can identify a leak and automatically switch the vehicle to petrol mode. Built on the existing XUV 3XO, which has secured a five-star Bharat-NCAP rating for both Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection, the ZNG brings an established safety credential to Mahindra’s CNG offering.
Dr Velusamy R, President, Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “The XUV 3XO ZNG comes with a clear promise: Zero Compromise. Customers today want the space, technology, safety and driving experience of an SUV, along with the lower running costs of CNG. With category-leading torque, turbocharged performance and impressive efficiency, the XUV 3XO ZNG brings together the practicality of CNG and the excitement of an SUV, setting a new benchmark for customer expectations from a CNG SUV.”
With its combination of turbocharged performance, everyday efficiency, generous equipment and practical packaging, the Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG positions itself as a compelling proposition for buyers seeking a feature-rich SUV with the running-cost advantages of CNG.
