Marelli has inaugurated a new technical R&D facility in Bangalore, Southern India, signalling a decisive expansion of the company’s engineering capabilities and its broader innovation strategy in critical automotive technologies. The centre, which will accommodate 350 employees, was officially opened on November 5 in the presence of representatives from both Marelli India and the company’s global leadership teams.
Strategically located within Bangalore’s Embassy Manyata Tech Park, the new centre complements Marelli’s existing technical R&D facility in the city, established in 2022. This location provides the company with unrivalled access to India’s deep pool of engineering and software talent and adds to Marelli’s engineering centre in Gurugram, near Delhi. With this latest expansion, Marelli’s R&D capacity in India will reach an impressive 1,200 professionals.
The Bangalore site features advanced laboratories supporting optics, hardware testing, and automotive validation, alongside collaborative spaces and training facilities designed to nurture innovation, teamwork, and employee development.
Operations at the new centre will span Marelli’s key technology domains, including electronics, automotive lighting, and both internal combustion and electric propulsion. Together with its two existing R&D facilities in India, the centre will focus on end-to-end development of solutions encompassing infotainment systems, clusters, displays, body control modules, engine management systems, headlamps, and rear lamps tailored for the Indian market.
In addition, the facility will work closely with Marelli’s global engineering teams and customers to co-develop cutting-edge technologies for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), zonal architecture, Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT), engine and battery management systems, and advanced lighting innovations. Marelli India is also investing in expanded in-house test infrastructure, enabling rigorous validation and robust product design processes internally.
“The opening of this new technical R&D centre underscores our continuous commitment to driving innovation, delivering excellence for our customers and fostering growth for our employees,” said Saju Mookken, Marelli India Country Manager. “This significant expansion reflects our strategic vision for R&D activities in India, allowing to further boost our capacity and speed in developing solutions that truly matter to consumers, locally and globally. I want to thank all the team whose dedication contributed to creating this space, which will empower our employees and serve our business well into the future.”
This development further cements Marelli’s substantial presence in India, which now spans 15 production sites and three R&D centres across six cities. With India’s dynamic market growth and its reputation as a global technology hub, the country remains central to Marelli’s strategic vision. Through trusted partnerships, strong customer relationships, and leadership in critical technology domains, Marelli is well-positioned to seize emerging opportunities and accelerate future growth from its Indian operations.
