Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ in India, introducing the first electrified AMG E-Class for Indian customers. The latest addition to the AMG portfolio builds upon the enduring legacy of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, one of India’s longest-running luxury car nameplates and a preferred choice among discerning luxury car buyers for more than three decades.

Designed to seamlessly blend everyday usability with exhilarating performance, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ combines a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine with an electric motor to produce a combined system output of 430 kW (585 hp). By integrating plug-in hybrid technology into the AMG formula, Mercedes-Benz aims to offer customers a luxury performance sedan capable of effortless daily commuting as well as scintillating racetrack performance.

One of the defining attributes of the AMG E 53 HYBRID is its ability to combine exceptional driving dynamics with an impressive electric-only range. This allows owners to undertake routine urban journeys purely on electric power while retaining the unmistakable performance credentials that define every AMG model.

Powering the AMG E 53 HYBRID is a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that develops 330 kW (449 hp). It works in tandem with a 120 kW electric motor integrated into the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission. Together, the powertrain generates a combined system output of 430 kW (585 hp) and 750 Nm of torque. Activating the RACE START function temporarily increases output to 450 kW (612 hp).

The performance figures underline the sedan’s sporting credentials, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 3.8 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Supporting the electrified drivetrain is a 400-volt battery with a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh, of which 21.2 kWh is usable. The battery enables a purely electric driving range of up to 100 kilometres (WLTP) and allows electric-only driving at speeds of up to 140 km/h. An 11 kW onboard AC charger is fitted as standard.

Mercedes-Benz has engineered the battery to balance everyday efficiency with performance. While 21.2 kWh of capacity is dedicated to regular driving, additional reserves remain available to provide short bursts of electric boost during spirited driving. Positioned beneath the boot floor, the battery can be replenished via onboard charging, plug-in charging and regenerative braking.

Complementing the electrified powertrain is AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, developed exclusively for the model, alongside AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive that continuously varies torque distribution between the front and rear axles to maximise traction.

Active rear-axle steering is also fitted as standard. Below 90 km/h, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels by up to 2.5 degrees, improving manoeuvrability and agility. Above 90 km/h, they steer in the same direction by up to 2.5 degrees to enhance high-speed stability.

Further enhancing driving precision is an electromechanical brake booster that intelligently combines electrical recuperation with conventional hydraulic braking. The system automatically maximises energy regeneration while ensuring the transition between regenerative and hydraulic braking remains imperceptible to the driver.

Drivers can select from AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes, including Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Slippery and Individual. In addition, two hybrid-specific modes—Electric and Battery Hold—allow drivers to manage battery usage according to their driving requirements.

The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package further elevates the driving experience with an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, AMG dynamic engine mounts, an AMG high-performance composite braking system, an AMG Performance steering wheel finished in Nappa leather and MICROCUT microfibre, as well as the RACE START function.

Visually, the AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ features several distinctive AMG design elements that set it apart from the standard E-Class. The front fascia is characterised by an illuminated AMG-specific radiator grille, an independent AMG front apron with enlarged cooling ducts and front fenders widened by 11 mm on each side.

At the rear, TURBO HYBRID lettering and E 53 badging with a red surround highlight the electrified drivetrain. These are complemented by an AMG rear apron with diffuser, an AMG spoiler lip and signature quad round tailpipes.

The sedan rides on 20-inch AMG five-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels finished in matt black with a high-sheen surface. Exterior highlights also include the AMG Night Package II with dark chrome door handle trim strips and Digital Light technology.

Customers can choose from six exterior paint finishes: Polar White, Verde Silver, Obsidian Black, Nautical Blue, Velvet Brown and Graphite Grey metallic.

Inside, the AMG E 53 HYBRID offers electrically adjustable AMG sports seats upholstered in ARTICO man-made leather and MICROCUT microfibre, finished in AMG black with red contrasting topstitching and AMG-specific seat graphics.

The MBUX infotainment system features dedicated AMG displays, including AMG Performance and AMG TRACK PACE menus, alongside hybrid-specific charging and range information.

Elevating the in-cabin experience further is the Burmester 4D surround sound system, which incorporates 17 speakers, four exciters and delivers 730 watts of output with Dolby Atmos playback capability.

Convenience features include pull-out front sun visors, rear sunblinds and an electrically operated roller blind for the rear windscreen, reinforcing the model’s blend of luxury, comfort and performance.

With the arrival of the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+, Mercedes-Benz has expanded its electrified AMG portfolio in India while introducing a luxury performance sedan that combines plug-in hybrid efficiency, everyday practicality and the dynamic character expected from an AMG.
