Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has officially announced the launch of the Volkswagen brand in Sri Lanka in partnership with Continental Cars and Commercials Ltd, signalling a major milestone in the company’s regional expansion strategy and reaffirming its long-term commitment to the South Asian market.
Making its entry into Sri Lanka with two of its globally recognised models, the Volkswagen Taigun SUV and the Virtus sedan, the German marque is set to offer customers a blend of European engineering, robust safety credentials, and a premium ownership experience supported by comprehensive sales and after-sales services.
Notably, both the Taigun and Virtus are manufactured at SAVWIPL’s state-of-the-art Chakan facility in Pune, India, before being exported to international markets, further underscoring the strength of the company’s “Make-in-India, for India and the World” strategy.
Speaking on the occasion, Piyush Arora, MD and CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, “Sri Lanka is a market with strong automotive passion and a deep appreciation for quality engineering. Volkswagen’s entry in the country marks not just the expansion of our footprint, but our long term strategy to leverage our scale, localisation and engineering capabilities to build sustainable growth beyond India. With our partner Continental Cars and Commercials Ltd, we are proud to introduce Volkswagen in Sri Lanka, beginning with the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan. Our focus is to build trust through reliability, customer centricity, and a premium ownership experience backed by strong service support.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Jan Bures, Executive Director, Sales, Marketing and Digital, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, “With the Taigun and Virtus, we are introducing two products that address clear customer preferences in Sri Lanka’s premium passenger vehicle market. Our focus is to build the Volkswagen brand with the right product mix, a strong retail presence, and a dependable after-sales experience that gives customers confidence from day one. This is not just about expanding our horizons in South Asia, but also about creating a solid foundation for sustainable growth over the long term.”

Supporting Volkswagen’s entry into Sri Lanka is Continental Cars and Commercials Ltd, a well-established name within the country’s premium automotive retail space. As part of the launch, SAVWIPL and its local partner have inaugurated a new world-class 3S facility in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, one of Colombo’s most affluent residential districts.

Spread across nearly one acre of property area, the new Volkswagen facility features a built-up space of 18,713 sq. ft. and houses more than 20 service bays, delivering an integrated Sales, Service and Spares experience under one roof.
Volkswagen’s arrival in Sri Lanka comes at a strategically significant moment, with the country’s automotive market displaying visible signs of stabilisation and recovery, alongside growing consumer appetite for premium mobility solutions.
The Sri Lankan debut further aligns with SAVWIPL’s long-term vision of strengthening its role as a regional manufacturing and export hub for the Volkswagen Group, while simultaneously broadening the brand’s footprint across key international markets from its India operations.
