Far from a nostalgic callback, the Sierra emerges as a premium mid-size SUV, defined by advanced powertrains, software-led architecture, ADAS, 5G connectivity, and a clear roadmap to electrification. TOS: The original Sierra was iconic. How did you blend its legacy with a modern SUV? MS: The original 1991 Sierra was ahead of its time, with features such as power windows, power steering, air-conditioning, and a distinctive lifestyle-oriented design. The challenge now was maintaining that emotional signature while catering to today’s customers who expect more technology, greater comfort, and a higher level of engagement with their vehicle. The new Sierra echoes the original but with modern execution. The surfaces are clean, with no visible weld seals, and very smooth lines. The original Sierra lacked a traditional door handle, so this time the handle is extremely slim and almost disappears visually. Even the headlamps are tucked in so neatly that you only see them up close. The clamshell bonnet and tailgate reduce exterior lines and give the car a solid, monolithic look.
