NEW DELHI
The entry-level hatchback segment has seen a major shake-up with the next-generation Tata Tiago ICE (Petrol and CNG) and Tiago.ev. Built on the X-Alfa architecture, this generation of the Tiago aims to “reimagine the hatchback” by democratizing premium features. Starting at INR 4.69 Lakh (ex-showroom), Tata maintains its multi-powertrain strategy, offering Petrol, iCNG, and Electric versions simultaneously to ensure there is “a Tiago for everyone.”

The next-gen Tiago adopts a mature, sharply defined aesthetic. It is wider and longer, featuring sleeker LED headlamps with integrated DRLs for “segment-best illumination.” The EV Variant distinguishes itself with a clean, blanked-off snout, whereas the combustion versions sport a black grille.

Blacked-out wheel arches and 15-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels give the profile an athletic boost. The rear features a revised connected-style LED tail lamp cluster and a resculpted bumper.

The cabin introduces the “Fabrica Luxe” dashboard with dual free-standing screens. Highlights include an industry-first Bluetooth integrated digital cluster, a twin-phone wireless charging dock, and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo. Tata aims to provide a “wow” feeling previously reserved for more expensive cars.

Adhering to the principle that “Safety cannot be rationed,” Tata has restructured the body shell with high-tensile steel for SUV-like confidence. Six airbags are now standard across all variants. Advanced features include a 360-degree HD camera, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and traction control. Tata also presented a video of a recent double-impact crash test done in-house of the new Tiago to showcase the Tiago’s robustness against both head-on and side impacts.

The iCNG range utilizes twin-cylinder technology to preserve boot space. The 1.2-litre engine produces 75 PS, and offers both manual and 5-speed AMT options. The automatic variant uniquely features steering-mounted paddle shifters for better driver control.

The Tiago.ev starts at INR 4.69 lakh and with INR 6.99 lakh, for the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model dropping the entry price to INR 4.69 lakh. It features 4-level regenerative braking and a DC fast-charging rate that adds 100 km of range in 18 minutes. Owners can expect significant annual savings, with real-world ranges of up to 200 km depending on traffic conditions.
