Designed and engineered in Solihull, they introduce Norton to the fiercely contested middleweight adventure and sport-touring segments with a pair of motorcycles that blend contemporary British design, advanced technology and real-world usability.

Built around a lightweight chassis, a new 585cc parallel-twin engine and Norton’s most sophisticated electronics package to date, the Atlas and Atlas GT have been created to deliver a balance of performance, practicality and rider engagement that sets them apart in the category.

Two Distinct Interpretations of Adventure

While sharing the same platform, the Atlas and Atlas GT have been developed with different riding priorities.

The Atlas adopts a more traditional adventure-focused character, featuring a 19-inch front wheel, increased ground clearance and suspension settings designed to cope with changing terrain and mixed-surface riding.

The Atlas GT takes a more road-oriented approach. Its 17-inch front wheel, revised geometry and touring-focused setup deliver sharper steering responses, enhanced road feedback and greater composure during high-speed touring.

Together, they offer two distinct interpretations of the same philosophy: capable, engaging motorcycles engineered for real-world riding.

Contemporary British Design

The Atlas range is among the first Norton motorcycles to fully embody the company’s modern design language developed under its Resurgence strategy.

Rather than drawing heavily on retro styling cues, Norton has focused on creating a contemporary visual identity defined by clean surfaces, integrated engineering and purposeful form. Minimal visible fasteners and carefully managed component packaging contribute to a remarkably cohesive appearance, while the distinctive side-panel design creates a sense of movement and visual drama.

Under the leadership of Head of Design Simon Skinner and with advisory input from Professor Gerry McGovern OBE, the design philosophy centres on modernity, integration and restraint. Structural elements remain visually honest, while ergonomics, airflow management and mechanical packaging have all influenced the final form.

The result is a motorcycle that stands out through clarity and confidence rather than excess.

A New 585cc Parallel Twin

At the heart of both models is a liquid-cooled 585cc parallel-twin engine featuring a 78mm bore, 61.2mm stroke and a distinctive 270-degree crankshaft configuration.

Producing 69 bhp at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm, the engine has been engineered to deliver accessible performance across a broad range of riding conditions.

The 270-degree crank gives the engine a distinctive character, combining strong traction characteristics with a broad torque curve. Low-speed response is immediate, mid-range acceleration is strong and the engine remains eager at higher revs.

Performance and durability are supported by Atmospheric Plasma Spray-coated cylinder surfaces, twin oil pumps, a high-flow cooling system, knock-sensor technology and a protected air-intake design. Additional engineering solutions including downdraft intake ports, a curved radiator and a compact DOHC layout optimise airflow, cooling efficiency and packaging.

A slipper clutch and standard bidirectional quickshifter further enhance the riding experience, delivering smoother downshifts and seamless clutchless gear changes.

Lightweight Chassis and Dynamic Handling

The Atlas and Atlas GT are built around a high-strength steel trellis frame that uses the engine as a stressed member.

At 188kg wet for the Atlas and 192kg for the Atlas Apex, the platform sits among the lighter offerings in the middleweight adventure segment. Extensive mass centralisation ensures agility at low speeds while maintaining reassuring stability on open roads.

Each model receives geometry tailored to its intended purpose. The Atlas benefits from greater ground clearance and a longer wheelbase for enhanced versatility, while the Atlas GT adopts a more road-focused stance for sharper turn-in and improved cornering precision.

A cast aluminium twin-sided swingarm complements the chassis, helping reduce unsprung weight while maintaining consistent rear-wheel control.

Premium Suspension and Braking Hardware

Developed alongside KYB, the suspension package has been specifically tuned for each model.

Both motorcycles feature fully adjustable 43mm upside-down forks with 20-step compression and rebound adjustment. The Atlas offers 180mm of travel front and rear, while the Atlas GT uses a shorter 140mm setup designed for road use.

At the rear, a fully adjustable KYB monoshock incorporates a hydraulic preload adjuster for rapid setup changes.

Braking performance comes from dual semi-floating 310mm front discs with radial-mounted calipers and a 270mm rear disc. Apex variants additionally feature electronic combined braking and vehicle hold functionality.

Intelligent Rider Assistance

The Atlas range introduces Norton’s most advanced electronics package yet, centred around a Bosch six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit.

Lean-sensitive ABS and cornering traction control continuously adapt to changing riding conditions, while five rider modes allow riders to tailor performance characteristics to suit different environments.

Cornering cruise control extends functionality beyond motorway use, helping maintain speed smoothly through sweeping bends and reducing fatigue during longer journeys.

Additional systems include wheelie control, rear-wheel slide control and Hill Hold Assist, all calibrated to operate naturally and unobtrusively.

Rather than overwhelming riders with endless configuration options, Norton’s approach prioritises simplicity and confidence, allowing technology to enhance capability without diluting rider involvement.

Connectivity and Digital Integration

A large 8-inch touchscreen TFT display forms the centrepiece of the rider interface.

Designed for maximum visibility in all lighting conditions, it provides access to ride modes, system settings, vehicle data and integrated navigation. Bluetooth connectivity enables multimedia control and hands-free communication, while intuitive joystick-style switchgear allows riders to navigate menus with minimal distraction.

Connectivity extends beyond the cockpit through the Norton Rider app, which provides ride statistics, service reminders and over-the-air software updates.

The objective is straightforward: create a seamless connection between motorcycle, rider and support network while preserving a rider-first experience.

Ergonomics and Touring Capability

Comfort and practicality were key considerations throughout development.

Extensive CFD analysis and wind-tunnel testing helped shape aerodynamic protection, reducing buffeting and rider fatigue during long-distance travel.

The Atlas features an 845mm seat height to support its adventure-focused brief, while the Atlas GT adopts a more accessible 815mm seat height. Adjustable levers, adjustable footpegs and tapered aluminium handlebars allow riders to further personalise the riding position.

A specially developed radiator chimney directs engine heat away from the rider, improving comfort in traffic and warmer climates.

Practical features include integrated luggage mounting points, Bluetooth-enabled keyless functionality, USB-C charging and tyre-pressure monitoring on the Atlas Apex. Heated grips and an integrated luggage frame are standard on Apex variants.

Lighting and Visibility

Lighting technology plays a central role in both functionality and design.

Twin projector LED headlights provide powerful illumination, while signature daytime running lights create a distinctive visual identity. Handguard-integrated indicators preserve the motorcycle’s clean design, while cornering lights and puddle lamps are available across the range and fitted as standard on Apex models.

Dynamic brake-light functionality further enhances visibility during hard braking.

The Ownership Experience

The Atlas and Atlas GT have been engineered with long-term ownership in mind.
