India’s electric vehicle story is moving beyond early adoption and finding acceptance. On World EV Day, industry leaders highlight the forces shaping this transition that range from better products and technology to charging infrastructure to affordability to localisation and to policy support.

JSW MG Motor India, Tata Power, Omega Seiki Mobility and Oben Electric have each outlined their perspectives on India’s evolving EV landscape, with a common emphasis on making electric mobility increasingly accessible, dependable and practical.
JSW MG Motor India says growing customer acceptance is being driven by new products, improved driving range, technology, features, government support, an expanding charging network and better road infrastructure.
Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India, said, “The Indian auto industry’s EV ambitions are being strongly embraced and acknowledged by the customers, as the EV segment continues to grow steadily. This upward trajectory is driven by new products, better driving range, improving tech and features, progressive government policies and support, an expanding charging network, and the growing road infrastructure. The ecosystem is being nurtured in a manner that encourages customers to increasingly choose EVs as their primary vehicles.
This World EV Day, I would like to congratulate all our EV customers for making the right choice. I would also like to reaffirm that at JSW MG Motor India, our journey forward will be marked by several innovations aimed at expanding our EV portfolioand offering customers the right choice at the right price point. These include introducing new technologies that will act as a catalyst to strengthen customer trust, further reinforcing their preference for EVs. Additionally, we remain heavily focused on localising the vehicles that will bear these new technologies, ensuringwe remain cost-competitive and achieve greater volume scalability, helping us in expanding our reach.”

The charging ecosystem remains equally central to the transition. Tata Power’s Virendra Goyal, Head – EV Charging, Tata Power, points to the need for infrastructureto keep pace as adoption expands beyond metropolitan markets.
As adoption widens beyond metros and beyond early adopters, the experience hasto hold up for a first-time buyer in a tier-two city as reliably as it does in Mumbai orDelhi. Our conviction is a simple one — clean energy has to be affordable, accessible and dependable. That is what turns an intention into an everyday choice.
Goyal said “World EV Day this year finds Indian mobility at a genuinely different place. EV penetration crossed 12% in August — roughly one in eight vehicles sold now runs on a battery, against under 10% a year ago. That is a shift no single part of the ecosystem could have delivered alone, and one that leaves all of us with a shared responsibility to match the pace.
At Tata Power, that is where we are putting our effort: expanding across highways, residential societies, workplaces and city hubs, while weighting uptime and renewable integration as heavily as network reach. With 7,000+ public charging points, 2.5 lakh+ home chargers and 1,200+ e-bus charging points, and with digital tools that let a driver locate, charge and pay without a second thought, our endeavour is to make the charging experience seamless, so consumers can realise the economic benefits of going electric.
The energy transition is the defining build-out of this generation, and the scaleIndia is heading towards will need more of everyone. We are glad to be building it alongside the rest of the industry rather than apart from it. And the measure of success for a day like this is its own redundancy — the point at which electric is simply how India drives, and no occasion is needed to make the case.”

For Omega Seiki Mobility, the EV transition must extend beyond vehicle adoption to encompass energy security, domestic manufacturing and charging infrastructure. Dr. Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman, Omega Seiki Mobility, said, “India’s clean-energy transition is no longer aspirational—clean sources now account for over 331 GW of installed capacity, surpassing fossil-fuel capacity. As EV adoption accelerates, energy independence must remain at its core. India has over 29,000 public charging stations, yet the next challenge is taking reliable charging to Tier-II and Tier-III markets. With INR 2,000 crore allocated under PM E-DRIVE, we must build beyond government-led deployment through strong PPP models, private investment and innovation. EVs, renewables and nuclear technologies will define India’s energy-secure future.”
Dr. Narang believes the next phase of India’s EV journey will be defined not merely by faster adoption, but by a resilient clean-energy ecosystem connecting electric mobility with renewable power, advanced energy technologies and domestic manufacturing. He also highlighted greater private-sector participation and innovative PPP models as important to expanding charging infrastructure across Tier-II and Tier-III markets.

Meanwhile, Oben Electric sees electric motorcycles as a significant opportunity for the next stage of electrification. Madhumita Agrawal, Founder & CEO, Oben Electric, said “India’s EV journey is entering a new phase, the conversation is shifting from adoption to mainstream acceptance. With EV registrations crossing 25 lakh in FY2025-26, the momentum is clear, with electric two-wheelers emerging as one of the strongest drivers of this transition.
The next opportunity lies in electric motorcycles. Two-wheelers are at the heart of everyday mobility in India, and as consumers increasingly look at EVs not as an alternative but as their primary mode of transport, electric motorcycles can play a defining role in taking electrification deeper into the mass market.
For this shift to scale, the industry must continue to focus on the accessible pricing, dependable products, convenient charging, strong after-sales support and a robust domestic EV ecosystem. Continued policy support, alongside investments in technology and manufacturing, will further strengthen this transition.
World EV Day is a reminder that the future of mobility is not just about making vehicles electric; it is about making electric mobility practical, aspirational and accessible to millions of Indians. The next chapter of India’s EV story will be about making that transition truly mainstream.” said Agrawal.
Across these perspectives, the direction of travel is unmistakable. India’s EV story is no longer simply about increasing adoption; it is about strengthening the ecosystem around electric mobility.
Technology, competitive pricing, reliable charging, localisation, manufacturingand after-sales support will all play a role in determining how quickly EVs move from an emerging choice to an everyday one.
This World EV Day, the industry’s message is increasingly clear: India’s electric future will be defined not merely by how many EVs are sold, but by how seamlessly electric mobility becomes part of everyday life.
